Madvapes Voltage Recommendations

Hi, I am currently using a buzz pro with madvapes "smoketek" DCT cartos. I have read other threads about voltage so we will leave that off, i want to talk about madvapes recommended voltages. -- and yes i know personal preference varies

They sent me a madvapes card with the following.
___________________________________________________
Battery-------------Single Coil-------------Dual Coil
510, 901, 808------2.0-3.2 ohms----------Not Recommended
eGo--------------- 2.0-3.2 ohms----------1.5-1.7 ohms
3.7 Volts-----------1.7 to 3.2 ohms--------1.5-1.7 ohms
5 Volts-------------2.5 to 3.2 ohms--------2.0 ohms
6 Volts-------------3.2 -4.5 ohms----------2.5 ohms
7.4 Volts------------4 to 5 ohms------------3 ohms
___________________________________________________

What are your thoughts about these numbers? My experience with dual coils has been ~4.0-4.4 volts for 2.5 ohms. I couldn't imagine running a 2.5 ohm dct @ 6 Volts, it almost burns the filler at 5 volts and starts tasting bad. I have had a 2.0 ohm cart that i believe to be faulty, i had to run it at 3.3-3.5 volts so surely it was lower than 2.0 ohms.

Also, while on this topic (madvapes) what do you think the odds are of getting a carto that isn't the volts you ordered?

This is where a volt meter is your best friend. Be sure to even check the tolerance of your leads. I think what MV provides is a very good reference, but its not exact for every combination out there. So a carto that ohm's at 2.2 ohms today may not be that after a weeks use, while battery voltage has remained the same. Does that help.

a multimeter is your best friend. i test all of my cartos when i unwrap them, and then sort them into different little buckets in my toolbox based on their actual resistance. then i can just grab whatever i prefer for a given juice, and dial in the voltage i prefer with it right away, without having to chase down the sweet spot and risk introducing the burny taste to a fresh carto.

i've come to hate the smoktech dual coils. they just perform terribly compared to boge single coils IMO, and one out of every 3-5 i've used has either been leaky from the start or wildly off-spec in terms of resistance. not worth the hassle.

boge's typically are within .1 of their rating in my experience. never had a surprise of .3 or more, which has been common for me with the smoktech DC's.

i vape bounty hunter more than anything else during the week, and with it, i love 5v on a 3ohm boge. awesome vape every single time.

A 2.0 ohm LR carto/atty should not be used on a slim ecig, use 3.0 ohm SR only.

I definitely agree; in fact a few of their other resistance/voltage figures look a bit questionable to me as well, though probably more as matters of preference than electrical compatibility. Certain juice combinations just seem to me to work better "cooked" a bit differently. I'm confined to a regulated 3.7 volt PV (1050mAh battery) so I have to search for the right temperature/"cooking time" by using different resistance attys/cartos and controlling the time the button is pressed. :)

Thanks for replies :)

Exactly

I don't think i need a volt meter, i've had no trouble dialing in a good vape with the buzz pro. I just felt that madvapes voltage chart is way off, then again i do know preference varies. I just didn't think it would vary that much, i think it does though according to this.

1.5 ohm - 5V
2.0 ohm - 5.6V
2.5 ohm - 6V (I would go higher, but the Provari only goes to 6V)

I really don't know how you use a 1.5ohm dct @ 5 volts. If that's what you like it's ok but it seems to me it would burn the filler immediately.

A 1.5ohm dual-coil carto has two 3 ohm coils. Each coil generates the same amount of heat as the coil in a 3 ohm single coil carto so there is no chance of burning the coil with normal use.

@stef64, I wasn't talking about ruining the coil, nor in literal terms of what each carto may withstand. I was speaking from personal experience, i tried a 1.7ohm dct at 5volts and it burnt the filler and tasted very harsh and hot. Not pleasant for me at all, but see again it's left up to preference, i suppose.

I see what you mean and I agree. A 1.7 ohm Smoktech carto at 5V will burn, but then AFAIK the 1.7 ohm is a single coil carto. The 1.5 ohm I was referring to is dual-coil.
