I recently got a Magma by Infinite and of course now i have a question on it as this is my first dripper. I definitely understand now why everyone says they needed to lower their nic level when they got one. Jesus, it had my head spinning in the first 10 minutes of using it. and these wells are massive! Really one step from being a bottom tank IMO

So, I was wondering how you Magma owners wick it?

Now, of course, I have searched the internet, watched You Tube blah blah blah. But what i find is a lot conflicting information which I full realize comes down to personal preference, "Finding what is right for me" and yada yada yada. But some people say don't stuff the wells with wicking and others say do stuff the wells. OR the ones I like the best are the posts that say you have to use the double-dragon twist with a back-flip wicking technique or nothing at all.

But what I want to know is as to how "you" are wicking "your" Magma ... that's all. I am curious about ... What works for you!

Hey Jolly,

I have had my Infinite Magma for a couple of months now. For me; I run dual coil @ .5 ohm and I pull the wick through and stuff it into the wells. I cut my wick even with the bottom of the AFC ring on both sides. I found by doing it this way it will fill both side wells about even with the insulator in the center between the posts. I don't unscrew the topcap to fill, I just drip about 10 - 12 drops down the center when I notice the flavor drop off. If I ever run single coil (which is how I started) I run with a slightly longer wick to help soak up a little more of the juice.

Also, for better flavor, keep the coils as close to, but not touching, the airhole as possible. Also when I run single coil I keep both air holes open. Just personal preference.

Hope this helps. Enjoy!!!

I have just enough cotton to extend into the juice channel on either side. I find it best not to pack the juice channel with wicking material

^^This. Personally, I've always found the least amount of wicking to be best in almost every tank/RDA. You want the wick to be thick enough to fit snug but NOT tight in the coil. But for the length of the wick, in the Magma I just put enough cotton to extend halfway into the juice well and thats it. You can have the cotton extend to the bottom of the well if you like, but you don't need to as long as you don't mind tilting ever so slightly when the juice gets below the wick.

The problem I have with stuffing wells with cotton is that you're just going to end up wasting juice. There's no escaping this. I don't care whether its rayon or japanese organic cotton, some of the juice stuck at the tail end of the wick is inevitably going to stay there and not travel entirely all the way up to the coil. It could be the most absorbant material in the world and this will still happen. Wicks aren't vacuums that direct liquid to the very center of the wick where the coil is, they simply absorb the liquid and thats it.

Liquid can travel up the wick when one end is already filled and the liquid is looking for dry area to absorb into, but once the tank is dry and the liquid is situated at the end of the wick, its not going to vacuum itself up to exactly the center of the wick. Its going to sit. So you're wasting juice. At least that's been my experience. Use shorter wicks, let fresh juice absorb into the wick rather than letting the juice sit in the wick.

Good stuff guys! Yea the consensus from all i read seemed to be leaning towards enough wick to touch the bottom but not in a packed way. The other nearest agreement was to have the wicks just barely reach into the well. I just think that you would see more leaking from the air hole if it was laid down with that method.

I did the first build with 28 gauge dual coils @ 0.8 with wicks about 1/2 way down the well. It is working great but i was going to rebuild it again tonight and wanted to try something different. The one thing i didn't do was lower the coil to the air hole. I left it even with the post holes so there is a huge gap there which I thought didn't look right but figured i would try it like that for the first go. I am going to lower it to 1-2 mm from air holes this time.

So do you guys fill the well up all the way when loading it?

I have just been using it as a regular dripper and not trying to take advantage of the big wells.
Actually I have been using to test a bunch of flavors i mixed as it is such a PITA to try to taste them in any kind of tank setup. That was my excuse to get it! :) I had to tell the wife something you know! But it does look super sexy on my Stingray! ;)
