I feel like the liquid makes the difference in how long a coil lasts.

I buy premade coils for one of my tanks. I vape unflavored in that one while the one I make coils for, I vape my NETs. The unflavored tank I can vape for over a month on before needing to changing out the coil and wick head. The NET coil I make so it is easy for me to just change out the wick and clean the coil.

Thank you for the info! I've heard before that sweetness of a liquid will greatly affect the life of a coil. I was just wondering what else affects the life of a coil.

Sweetness and in my case NETs are harder on coils. My rule of thumb (which has worked out fairly well) the darker the liquid, the harder on the coils.

The NET that I vape (daily, 24/7 except when switching with the unflavored) is a very light colored liquid. I can go a week easy before needing to clean and swap out the wick.

Thanks Robino1! I'm hoping my coil will last at least 5 to 7 days (only because of cost). Coils near me tend to run high cost-wise.

For me it isnt cost as replacing cotton is pennies its more about labor, i get about 2 weeks usually 3 depending on how negligent i am when it comes to keeping my tank topped off and paying attention to the levels. I dont use any colorful flavorings everything i use is diketone free and tested but my biggest rule if i am making a recipe that i like with sweeteners which is about 50% of my recipes i never use more than 1% Ethyl Malto any more than that and it is basically bubling black sugar crusting up and tasting all carbon char like on the coil. I dont shop at vape shops i dont buy pre made eliquid or coils but you might try asking a vape shop if they know how much sweetener goes into your fav juices and inquire if there is a way to get less sweetener in it.

Believe it or not this question has come up a bunch lately in different iterations but essentially leads to the same answer. EM!

Thank you so much for all that info. A lot of that I have never even heard of before (like the Ethyl Malto) but I get it.

I'm getting my new evic Vtwo next week with the rebuildable coil (is that what it's called?) so I look forward to learning how to do it myself.

I want the best vape for the least amount of work and cost. So I mix and rebuild and do a few more things to make the most of that. My DIY has very little flavoring as in 1% of an all in one. It's fine. I space the coil just barely enough to have separation. That seems to reduce gunk. I rewick twice a week and gently dry burn. I seem to maintain a better vape if the coil is replaced about once a month. A curious thing about vaping, the less you spend the better it gets. Everybody who expects to be a life long vaper will be mixing and rebuilding eventually.

@sofarsogood brought another good point. Coil build itself. Like him i space mine but more so not just enough but around 2 widths of 26 gauge wire gap between this allows juice to be held in "reserve" in the gaps essentially so it also helps the vape taste better and keeps the coil from getting too hot. Overall i like spaced coils much much better, i started with micro coil type builds found that after trial and error it wasnt for me moved on to "macro" coils. Everyone is different everyone will have their own opinion and flavor preference heat preference cloud preference and so on. You'll get there just whatever you do, DO NOT CUT CORNERS! Be smart, be safe, and enjoy! :D

Too much Sweetener trash's coils and also some flavors. Flavoring like Cinnamon and Chocolate you can almost bank on trashing the coil in a day, maybe two. I try to avoid those flavors but sometimes I get a hankering for juice that has them and say o'well and will have to re-wick at least once a day, sometimes two. But I mostly avoid them and also as mentioned above avoid as you can dark juices.

For me re-wicking isn't that huge of a deal, just a minor annoyance. Now if I was still using factory coils that'd be a much larger problem. $5 a coil vs a fraction of a penny ...... I'm so glad I don't use factory coils any longer ;)

Right! Thanks. :)
In the beginning there is a lot to get used to and you're trying to get off smoking and your system can't tolerate much vapor so a simple rig without many variables is wise. Then read and read and watch youtube videos and ask qustions--and be patient. Keep your wallet in your pocket. I've paid a lot of attention to this topic in the past couple of years and still have things to learn that might improve my vape.

I'm doing my best to learn as I go and so far I have been enjoying learning about vaping as much as vaping itself.

Thanks for the help. :)

I am basically lazy, so I don't rewick or rebuild with any regularity. Nor do I do anything to make my coils or wicks last longer. For me it is all about enjoyment of the vape. I like my sweet juices and that is all I vape. When the vape no longer tastes good, I dry burn my coil, rinse and rewick. If after a gentle dry burn and rinse I still cannot see metal, I change the coil. For the most part my coils will last about a month before I start getting a vape that no longer satisfies me.

What others have said is truth. Sweet juices, dark juices, and NETs will all shorten the effective life of a coil, but if those are the juices that you enjoy then that is what you have to live with. Once you get into building your own coils and wicking your own cotton, then the cost is negligible. If I had to buy pre-made coils, I probably would have given up on vaping a long time ago because of the cost.

Wow, I have rambled.
