At this stage in the game I am wondering why the individual man cave mods don't have names? Simply calling them DNA20 or DNA30 doesn't seem to do them justice. Especially since there are other modders doing the dna thing too. I certainly don't want my mcm confused with some other mod because I said dna.

In keeping with the man cave theme I am thinking of names like Dual 18650 Brute, or the 26650 Villain. These are only suggestions or just me thinking too much, lol. Why is it they don't have names Matt?

I believe there may be a few DNA20 ManCaveMods that have the faulty contacts in them as well. If you haven't noticed any problems then you are ok.

do i need to crank up my 20 to a certain W to even see if there may be a problem?

mine is a recent #137 and i haven't yet put it through the paces.

We'll I have good news. Matt pm'd me and asked me if I had a soldering iron to put a small bead of solder on the spring where it contacts the plate.. Was going to wait until the morning and try it but went ahead instead...

Works like a charm now!

So if you have or have access to an iron give this a try I can put up a picture of exactly where I soldered if anyone needs it..

Took 5 minutes of my time and got to put two pennies back in my pocket

You can see the small bead of solder in the upper left corner on the spring. Doesn't take much. Hope this helps you itsrayray

The way these contacts are built, the spring is riveted to the contact plate. The rivet is the culprit. Somewhere in this design there is too much resistance. By soldering the spring to the contact plate it is allowing the current to bypass the rivet.

This is how I would fix these mods. Take a knife and pry the entire contact off the wood. Solder from the back of the contact plate, making sure a small amount of solder flows into the center of the rivet. Also there cant be a large buildup of solder on the back of the contact plate or it will not sit flush to the wood. The contact can be epoxied to the wood. If this task is too daunting or you dont have access to the right tools I will do this for you.

After reading this I desoldered what I had done and did it the way you explained.. Looks much cleaner now and works just as well.

If you do get some over flow of solder on the contact plate you can take a dremel and put a polish stone on it and bring it down flush to the plate (make sure that you don't dremel it too flush and break the connection the solder made)

It warmed up enough for me to get the final finish on the wood. Hopefully sometime this week I should have these mods finished.

Gotta get me one of these...I have too much in my vape budget this month...gonna need you to take some of it for me :p
