I'm on hurry so quick&dirty...

Story:
I wanted a easier way to get the performance like a Microcoil with less tricky changing the cottonwool.
So i decided to go another way and the Maxicoils were born.

Howto:
Just have a look at my G+ Profile for different Infos (sorry mostly german, but easy to understand with photos)

They are made with 0.30mm Kanthal and 3mm diameter , so you get
1.4Ohms@5turn,1.8Ohms@6turns,2.2Ohms@7turns
(i accidentally wrote on some posts/pictures 0.4 Kanthal because Meshcompany UK delivered wrong wire)

Also i did a Dual-Maxicoil in one build with higher mechanical stability for mechanical-mods use and the 2 coils are heating up faster.
You only have to divide by half the values listed above like 0.7Ohms (1.4) with 10 (5) turns - easy to remember.

Dual-Maxicoil:

Also i did it in Kruser One and others, the handling changes in this case becauste i use the tanksection as a liquidspace so it's like dripping in opposite direction.
Holding in an angle, close aithole with finger and sucking short&gently to refill wool through holes ;)

Have a nice day...

@Lethalp
Don't understand clearly, I'm German my dear...

You mean what I use to make the coil?
A screwdriver (these clockmaker ones) with 3mm diameter or a driller.

To make a clean Wick there is a trick:

Always hold wire streched and turn right hand more left after 1st round, so if you want to lay the rounds above each other because then the wire fells beside and keeps super narrow.

Then mount without removing screwdriver, fix the wires with screws, justage of coil.

Then remove it, heat it up until bright glow, release fire and press quick coil together with tweezer and hold it until it is cool.

I don't heat wire before making wick!

Hope it is understandable ;)

I do all kinds of stuff.
Searching for better and more effective coils.

Most people think thicker wire, lower ohms, more wicks is more taste and more clouds.

Stupid.

I also did a graphic today what explains how to compare battery and why a 3000mAh one runs same time as a 3400mAh.

If there is interest I could make another in english language...

Post 5 desribes The Trick to get a perfect coil.

The type of Wire...
US has no Metric system, this causes misundertanding.

You say 28,30,32 Kanthal - i dont know if you mean AWG28/30/32
If you mean AWG and i talk in Metric (Milimeter) we go opposite direction

Here is a converter table, check it out:
AWG to Metric Conversion Chart

I use 0.30mm - 0.36mm, depending which Atomizer you want to wick and which AT (the "Engine" for it, dunno how you call it) you use

0.30mm is minimum to get a stable construct, 0.36mm is mor stable but slower to heat up - but perhaps better solution for you eyes

So give me more details which devices you use and i can help more precisely.

I use a zmax mostly, but I also own both DNA12 and DNA20 mods. And yes my kanthal is aw a well. I like to vape in the 1.5 to 2 ohm range. Any higher than that and liquid starts to taste like air with no flavor. I use nimbus clones as my rda most of th time, tho I have only been able to wrap a single coil so far. I have only been working with wick and wire a couple months. Forgive all the questions, I just figure a bigger coil maybe better for me.

Yo, no worry about question - anyone who don't ask will stay stupid ;)

I am Modder, Developer, Moderator and Supporter in the biggest German Vape Forum with acutal 12.615 Posts...
And don't get tired to help Newbies.

We will get a solution, the biggest Trick about vaping is to know:

There is no black magic - they all cook only with water

Got it?

So there's no need for dual, triple, quadro coils...
Also the calculating of most people:
thicker wire, lower ohms, more wicks = better taste and more clouds is nonsense!

1st step THE COTTONWOOL:

Only use 100% Cottonwool bleached with oxygen - nothing else

Select a package wich s not smelling when you squeeze it.
Because often the chemistry in plasticbags (plasticizer) will get in cottonwool and disturb the taste.

Never touch the wool if you use Lotions/Cremes with your hands.
The wool is so greedy and takes everything it could get from your fingers quickly
and you won't like the taste of it.

2nd step THE WRAPPING TOOL:

I prefer so called clockwork-maker screwdrivers or fine-mechanic screwdrivers
Just like such ones:

sd.jpg
(prefer something with small handle)

Otherwise a driller will also work - improve like you want.

Now you take one screwdriver with 3mm thickness (6th/thickest one)
Think US works with inch, then 3mm = 01⁄8in (0.11811in) is what you need.

3rd step HOW TO WRAP A COIL:

Quite easy if you follow easy rules.
Forget all blackmagic about doing a coil and switch to braindead-mode ;)

Take the wire AWG28 (0.32mm) should work fine for it.
Dont cut some wire.
Just free an amount of wire (half lenght of your hand) from the spool.
The spool is your 2nd handle (Yes, we always use tiny tricks for stress-free working)

Take a small amount so that you can press it easy with yout thumb against the handle of screwdriver.

Now you start the first round of your coil - don't worry about the crooked beginning we'll fix it later.

The important thing is you MUST now always keep the wire stetched!

During 2nd round try to hold right hand with the wire-spool minimal to left direction.
(like you want to put the rounds above each ohter)
and you will see the 2nd round of wire lays perfectly narrow between the first one.

Go on until 6-8 rounds like you want, think 8 rounds will reach 1.6-1.8Ohms thats ok
You don't need to get exactly 1.8-2Ohms, don't worry.

Now cut the wire, let a small end like you hold with your thumb.
You'll see the coil snaps back a quarter round without loosing shape - yes! you did it :D

4th step MOUNTING THE COIL:

So you just finished the coil, don't remove it from the screwdriver.
We will need it to mount and fix the coil in the atomizer!.

Put the ends in the connector-terminals, let a little small wire left for adjusting coil.
Fix it with the screws and then move the coil more sitting in center.
The screwdriver now helps to hold the shaper of coil ;)

Airhole strraight line to center-connctor and coil adjusted to sit between it - try so good it could be done
Must not sit perfectly horizontal, try some angles,
control no metal contact possible (Connector&Cap/Bottompart)

Why so?
1. you get more space to change wool (easier to handle)
2. more space between airhole & connctors (airflow better no electrical short)

When finfished, remove Sscrewdriver.

We will do now the finfish and get the perfect shape...

Put the base on your zmax.
Take a metal-tweezer and hold it over (not contacting it) the coil
so that you can press all wraps together
Select 10-15Watt on ZMAX and fire up until bright glowing.

Release firebutton and quickly press the hot coil with the tweezer together
and hold this position until it is cooled out.

Now you have a perfect coil - gratulations...

5th step THE COTTON WICK:

Hm, thats try&error but cottonwool mustn't pressed too much.

This graphic i did should give you some hint:

photo.jpg

If you want to change wool /clean wick:
Dril the wool so it gets off the coil, then pull out
Fire up the coil, blow ashes away, insert new wool

Thats all - nerver change the coil again ;)

Maxicoils produce much clouds but clean taste, unless you work with
8-20Watts no burnt taste if enough Liquid used
They heat up gently and hold it some short time - so no faceslap :D

GENERAL NOTES:
- If cottonwool is too wet you'll get a sharp taste (figure it out how much you drip into)
- The first 5-6 draws taste of new wool are always typical but then you get the cleanest taste ever!
- Before it runs dry you'll taste it - it gets more and more taste like butterscotch
- Burnt taste also could be come you used too much compressed wool - try less wool
- Less taste but more throathit caused often by too small airhole and wrong airflow
- VG Liquids come really tasty with less throathit, PG gives more throathit
- Strange taste could be also from using not enough power (i always use Power-Mode instead of Voltage-Mode)
- Small "explosions" sometimes are caused from less wool in coil - It boils up builds a bubble and releases quickly (simple physics)

Some words on your used devices:

The RDA is not a good choice get rid of it.
The Nimbus also because of limited of space but we'll take it for example.

Better would be a DRA XL because it has 2 Terminals variable angle and space betweeen terminals
or a DRA A7 (mini) atomizer, perhaps the BT806 (Trident like)

Maxicoils are better usable in Tank-systems like:
Flah-e-Vapor 1&2, Kayfun Lite/Russian92%/The Lite, Squape, Taifun GT, Fogger V2

Flash-e-Vapor is the best created Tanksystem:
Simple build, anytime access to refill or changing wick because all parts are closed system
No need to empty Tank for changing wick, big and long airchannel for cooler vaping
Much space between connectors and all kinds of Maetrial usable (Silica, wool,SS)
Developed & Produced in Germany but also now Cloned :(

Also Maxicoils need a airhole about 1.6-2mm (2mm = 05⁄64in) - much air to get best taste experience
So look if anyone could fix the airhole in Nimbus - its too small.

The Coil is made with 0.36mm Kanthal A1 = AWG27 in US @ 1.6Ohms
The draw with 2 airholes was too soft for me, i put a toothpick in the opposite hole of the wick and broke it to get the hole closed.

The pictures are quite small, i don't know why the forum it scales down.
Even if i click on a picture the popup is small too - weird...

Great instruction and pictures! Thank u so much!! I think I can do this, I am going to try soon. I am going to ask one more noob question though, I assume I am still supposed to season the wire, I torch till red, then put in cold water 3 times before I start wrapping, right? And I was wrong about my wire, I have A1 kanthal 30 and 32 gauge, and a little bit of nichrome wire. I don't know the difference between awg and A1? I also think I have the tool to wrap on, I have a set of small screwdrivers and my husband has loads of drill bits. I will snoop around and see if I can find one that's the right size.
I have also bought organic cotton that I boiled several times, I am happy with it so far in the smaller coils. I am not sure which clone I have, I thought it was a nimbus but maybe not. I have two that have 3 screws and look similar in size to the ones in the pictures. So many clones and buying from different sites, I am not sure anymore. :)

You only have to look after: 100% Cotton & oxygen bleached
Strange taste/smell as i wrote comes often from the plastic bag - put wool in free air some days and it's gone
So no need to boil, no good idea - after cooking the wool isn't so fleecy like was before

btw. Cotton is always organic
300px-Feld_mit_reifer_Baumwolle.jpeg

You heat the wire 3 times, cool it in water, only when full moon is shining and muttering black magic formulas and sacrifice a virgin

Forget this, do it exact like i wrote above (the correct way to get a long lasting & stable coil):
Use wire as it was delivered, keep it under tension during wrapping coil

AWG (American Wire Gauge) is a US Unit/System, German use Metric System - in this case Milimeter (mm)
If i use 0.36, you look left side it is AWG 27

26 = 0.40
27 = 0.36
28 = 0.32
29 = 0.28
30 = 0.25
31 = 0.22
32 = 0.20

Kanthal, Kanthal A, Kanthal A1 = only difference in maximum Temperature before it melt, in our case not important

Actually i did a new Setup also with 3mm Diameter but 0.40 Kanthal - compare with table above: AWG 26
7 Wraps = 1Ohm - ideal for my mechanical mod, not working with ZMax&other which need 1.2Ohm minimum

Your AWG 30 is very thin and (mechanical) unstable, get some 28 or 27 - this will work fine
