I've been contentedly using a Grand for the last week and have very much enjoyed both the vape and the squonking experience, probably the squonking more so since I'm use to a warmer vape and occasionally feel the need to rendezvous with my ProVari's at a non-discript, out of the way motel for some illicit hot vaping.

I knew this two-timing way of life could not continue without unwanted ramifications and was giddy with excitement when my USPS tracking number indicated that my recently ordered Kick was out for delivery thus negating the agonizing wait through the long holiday weekend until Tuesday's mail delivery.

Not one to take child labor laws too seriously I had my grandson fire up his ATV and drive to the mailbox to await the normal 1PM delivery. He returned at 1:30 PM sans package, or stack of bills, explaining that the mail lady never arrived. My suspicion is that he met some teenage girl on the dirt road and never actually made it to the mailbox. (My daughter complains that he's too much like his grandfather. He's gonna have a fun life.)

In the history of the universe I never gone a day without at least junk mail in the mailbox, especially during an election season so I bribed him with the promise of taking him shooting and letting him load his own ammunition for the outing. This was more than enough incentive for him to make the trip every hour. Shortly before 7PM he presented my with the awaited package. (Turns out our mail lady took the holiday weekend off and her substitute was some guy who would starve to death if you locked him in a Safeway overnight.)

As with the Grand, I was well acquainted with the operation of the Kick prior to its arrival and not big on delayed gratification I chose not to run a ground wire, bend a piece of aluminum or construct a Kickstand, I simply used a flexible sanding stick and cleaned off an area for a ground. It took mere moments to slap on a 2.5 ohm HH 357 and transport myself to vaping Nirvana. (Yes, I understand that I get an equally outstanding vape on the ProVari's but there is no squonking involved with them and squonking is what keeps my feeble mind entertained.)

As pleased as I am with the Kick I am left in a conundrum and hence my question and plea for opinions. According to the Reos Mods website VVGrands will be offered for purchase for an unspecified renumeration this coming Saturday night. With the limited amount being offered the chances of actually being quick enough to get one are probably lower than winning the Powerball, two weeks in a row but a challenge is one of the many things that makes life interesting.

So, is it worth being late, or even having to cancel a scheduled dinner engagement so as to hunch over a computer screen and attempt to purchase an elusive VV Grand or would the same results be achieved by simply buying another Grand and equipping it too with a Kick. (On it's face it does seem rather ridiculous to possibly miss a date with a very attractive lady just to buy another mod but ladies are the reason I quit smoking in the first place. I guess you could say I'm willing to make this personal sacrifice for the long term good... my good.)

Any guidance in the form of pros and cons concerning the the Kicked Grand vs. the VV Grand would be greatly appreciated.

Jack

 That's a tough call, Jack.
First, I admit I've never used a Kick. So I don't know how great it may or may not be. However, I should tell you that the first batch is 200, but he's got another 800 to build. Meaning, there will be more offered a few weeks later. The website gets slammed and the server crashes...it takes a long time and lots of patience to work through a sale night. The first sale night is the worst. It may be more pleasant to go on your date and buy the next go round. But then there are many who just can't deny themselves the excitement of the first sale night experience of the newest model of REOs. Personally, I'm sacrificing a trip with my girlfriends to Whistler/Pemberton, BC to stay home and watch the excitement...I already have one, so I'll not be participating in the melee'. :)

I sadly won't be in on the fray this sale night either, but it is a good and exciting trip trying to snag one. I did get to appreciate the fever on the VV Woodvil run and got my first choice even!!! I too have not yet tried the kick in my grand, but I can see the potential. Honestly, I would guess the VV grand would be very similar performance wise to the kicked grand and would focus more on the battery life. My VV Woodvil with 2 AW IMR 18350s lasts almost exactly a full day of vaping for me, and the 18500 falls a little short in the Provari with a similar setup. So, for me at least, I'd probably go for the VV Grand. Like I said, I unfortunately can't afford to pick up a new toy this sale, but I sure would love to have another VV. Either way, I look forward to forgoing the need for any circuitry by the use of the rebuildable ERA atties I have on the way. I intend to experiment a lot and in all likelyhood, never buy atties or cartos again. This is the ideal setup for me, but I wish you the best in any endeavor you put forth. Thanks for the eloquent read again. I especially like the part about the substitute mailman, lol. :p

I expect that with your kicked grand, a VV grand would not be a necessity. However I personally can not wait to get my hands on a VVG in lieu of my kicked grand. On the other end of that, I simply can not afford a 200 dollar purchase right now. I hope Rob has some available come christmas time... My VVW birthday present was passed over because of a wedding that took place at a very inopportune moment in time (during the sale.) Needless to say I am hoping Santa Rob comes through this X-mas :D.

Hi Jack,
I have a kicked grand I've been using since the Kick came out, maybe 5 months or so is my best guess. Its worked great for me. THe VV Grand from what I've read does have longer battery life. In the morning I put in a fresh 18490 and I have to make two changes of the battery during the day. This is when I am vaping heavily which for me is about 6 ml a day. One advantage to the Kicked Grand is that if the Kick dies you can always throw in an 18650 and vape away. ITs also slighly shorter than the VV GRand. You can remove the Kick and run the Grand under water for cleaning it as well which you would not do with a VV Grand.

I do like have just one battery instead of two in a VV mod.

The VV Grand can run hotter than the Kick if you care for a hot vape. I run my Kick at 9 watts and thats plenty hot for me but some like it very hot. THe VV Grand I think might have better connectivity. Once in a whie I have to give my Kick a slight twist to keep the ground contact going. This happens to me maybe once every three days or so, no big deal. I just sanded the anodizing off my Grand so no wires etc.

I believe the VV Grand has reverse battery protection but the Kick does not. Throw a battery upside down into a Kicked Grand and its fried instantly.

Adjusting the wattage on the Kick is more tedious as you have to remove the Kick and get a tiny screw driver to make changes whereas on the VVG just a turn of the thumbwheel does the trick. I set my Kick though and don't touch it for weeks on end as it compensates for the atomizers decline. I've had attys that started out at 2.3 ohms and three weeks later are at 1.3 and never noticed a difference in the vape during the atomizers decline.

As much as I like my Kicked Grand I would love to have a VV grand. I think the integration of the electronics is much nicer and longer battery life is always a plus.

Thank you for that explanation, you've made things much clearer. I've been pretty happy so far with the Kick but I've only had it since yesterday. I was a bit worried about it moving around in the Grand, (based on threads I read here previously), so today I showed my son-in-law what I wanted to accomplish and asked him to see what he could come up with. (Showed him the pictures of the kickstand, wire connection to battery base, etc.) He ran down to ACE Hardware and came back with a thin strip of brass. (A whopping $1.49) Cut it the length of the interior of the Grand, put some Noalox on one side, placed it against the right side wall then slipped in the Kick installed the battery and I've been happily vaping on it ever since. Didn't have to mess with the spring base or even sand off any more of the finish than I already had. I can pretty much shake the Grand as hard as I want and the kick doesn't budge. Having a handy SIL is a good thing.

I do believe I'm going to take RF's advice and and not cancel my social engagement Saturday night just to take a chance on the sale date since they'll be another one in the not too distant future. Of course I don't have reservations at a restaurant that prohibits me from keeping my iPhone in my lap and trying to snag one over an antipasto.

You've been very helpful, thank you.
