After much experimentation and some careful thought, I have come up with a method for dispensing and measuring VG/PG/Nic base that I thought I would share. I started with all syringes. This works fine but drawing VG into a syringe is not so easy, especially if you have it in a container with quite a bit of dead space in the top. And you then need to clean 3 syringes to perform one basic task.
Then I tried some graduated cylinders. This is quicker but I ran into a few problems. First, everything "clings" to the inside of the cylinder. Especially the VG. So I never ended up with the full amount in the bottle when I was done. The next issue I ran into with the graduated cylinders is trying to pour from the cylinder into a bottle with a small opening. The opening on some of the bottles I have is pretty small. Sometimes I would end up pouring the VG all over the place. Not good.
So I have now moved to this method. First, I purchased a few of these in various sizes:
Vestil BTL-RC-4 Low Density Polyethylene (LDPE) Round Squeeze Dispensing Bottle with Removable Red Cap, 1-13/16" Diameter x 5-15/16" Height, 4 oz Capacity, Clear: Amazon.com: Industrial & Scientific
I use these to store and dispense the VG, PG, and Nic base.
Next, I purchased one of these:
Syringe with 18 Gauge Needle - My Freedom Smokes
One thing to note is that this is a 30 ML syringe. The largest bottle I ever mix is 30 ML, so this works perfect for me and works for mixing smaller batches as well. If you are mixing larger batches you might prefer a larger syringe.
The key to the 30 ML syringe is that the plunger can easily be removed from the top. So what I do here is remove the plunger, and then I start by dispensing VG from one of the bottles above into the syringe from the top. The VG is pretty thick and won't run right out of the syringe. But it will drip a little so what I do is set it on top of a paper towel during the process. You could also use a Luer syringe cap or a blunt nose needle to keep it from dripping while you are measuring. Next, dispense & measure the PG and Nic base on top of the VG in the syringe. Once you have all 3 in the syringe, put the tip of the syringe in the bottle you are preparing and carefully insert the plunger back into the syringe and dispense all of it into the bottle.
Then all you need to do is add your flavors to the bottle and you are done. I use syringes for measuring my flavors also but I never put any flavors in the larger syringe.
This is the quickest and easiest method I have come up with for doing this. If anyone knows a simpler method, please share. I hope this is helpful for anyone getting into DIY.
