Hey guys, I noticed a serious lack of performance in one of my vtc4's. Sometimes it fires, other times its finicky. Today on my way in to work while I was dripping and driving, I noticed it was not working 100 percent and my fire button started heating up. I swapped to my other vtc4 and it was back to working nicely. What could be causing this? I also noticed sometimes my mech will fire on its own when I tighten it down after putting in a new battery. Im guessing its my firing mechanism since I am using a spring? maybe its weakened and now time to upgrade to magnets or get another spring? my mech is about 2 months old, but I do vape alot

I have a KTS+ that the button will get hot on occasionally, this tells me when I have forgotten to clean the contact points. A good cleaning with alcohol swabs always seems to do the trick for me. I am not familiar with your mod, but this may be worth a try as to the hot button issue.

hot mod/button + "not working 100%" sounds like a short.

But really you should be more descriptive with your words here. What do you mean by not working 100%

What mech are you using? What topper? What ohm are your coils? Did you test the coils for shorts before using?

That info would also be useful.

I have never cleaned my contact points, I will try this when I get home. my mod is a k101 clone from fastech, and I will def try and see if this fixes it.

My build is a dual coil 24g at around .5-.6. I do not have any shorts and it just seems to happen with that one battery. and I am using a nimbus rda. all of my batteries are vtc4s

edit: added rda info

okay so i cleaned my firing pin and all contact points with alcohol, and its still happening. im getting serious performance issues and my fire button is heating, as in i take two to three consecutive drags and its pretty dang warm. dont say this is normal for mechs, because this is the first time im really experiencing this after using it for a while! any suggestions? i agree with the above poster, this is probably some sort of mod problem, not battery.

any help PLEASE

A hot button without anything else being unusually hot means you have a resistance somewhere in your switch mechanism. Think of that resistance as another atomizer in series with the one you're vaping on, stealing watts. I couldn't begin to tell you what to look at specifically, as I don't know how your switch is set up.

thanks for the input wheelie. i use cotton only, and i know what your talking about. i have had the same thing happen from my wicking being too tight, but never had my fire button heat up THIS much. I have replaced my cotton 4 times tonight in frustration trying to find out whats going on and still the same thing. I tried lightly sanding my fire pin and that seemed to help for a minute, but lo and behold the same thing is happening. Cant really complain too much i guess, cant expect that long of a life from a cheap clone -_-

you said it only happens with one of your batteries?

if this is the case you could have a defective battery, take it out and inspect it carefully......if it only happens with that certain battery, get rid of it and use the other one.....if you have the same problem with both then you have a short somewhere.......you could be tightening it up too much when attaching and putting to much pressure on the battery, try backing off a bit...your contacts look dirty or burnt and looks like your threads could use a good cleaning...every little bit helps.

hey there everyone thanks for the input. i used some real fine sand paper and sanded my firing pin a bit.... seemed to help. and i thought it was just with one of my batteries this morning, but it was actually occurring with all of them. seems like its firing ok now, and not getting hot. i went ahead and ordered another mod tonight :D probably diddnt need to, BUT i guess the bug bit me lol. I also ordered a igo w6, so that should be fun to build on, even though i have heard different reviews good and bad.

One last question, the mod i ordered has a magnetic firing pin. i have only had springs, what are the pros/cons of having magnets vs springs?

Magnets don't wear out. They're usually smoother and have a shorter throw too.

The center of your switch pin is dark. That is the problem IMO. I can get that off my K100 contacts with alcohol and a Q-tip which I do monthly so it doesn't get too bad. I don't use anything abrasive as I don't want to rub the plating off. I clean the battery ends like this too.

I've had the K100 over a year now and it was my main vape tool for about 8 months. I suspect that if you burn through the plating you'll have to sand it off and them you're into the brass underneath.

Hi @element9633 I have just had a similar issue with a Launcher V2. Every few toots the bottom button would get hot, I then realised I had swapped the bottom spring out for a softer throw. Obviously it was not up to the job regards to ressistance as they can become part of the circuit. Replaced with a slightly sturdier spring and all is fine now. Not sure if this throws any light on your problem or not.

If your contacts are clean and the problem persists your running a build that is a bit too low for your mod, I have a cheapie from fasttech that heats up when I run it hard and low and even my nemi Clone from ehpro gets hot button at very low ohms.
The next thing that is going to happen is your spring is going to collapse, that's what is made to do. Go easy on it or buy a better mod, I nurse my pos from fasttech just BC I like it and is fine I just have to play nice and let it cool down
