Wow did the Reo fan boys ever jump on this thread!
It's a good mod, don't get me wrong, but it is not all mechanical and it's a bottom feeder not a carto tank mod.
If it's a mechanical mod that you want, there are plenty to choose from. The Don, Mako, Precise, Omega, Alpha, GG, just to name a few. My personal preference in an all mechanical is the Mako, but it uses 14mm bats not the 18mm bats that you said you are looking for.

first of all, i would consider the size of the mod you want. 18650 tube mods with a carto on it are pretty long - well for me they are to long for my shirt's pocket, to long for my trousers pockets and i dont like to wear a holster...

if a tube mod, i suggest the stealth format (18350 batteries). it's handy and one batterie lasts almost a day for me. myself use a don in stealth size with tank cartos - it's a perfect outdoor gear and the don is a light weight..

but consider this: a box mod like the reo grand fits easyly in your shirt's pocket or any 'inner' pocket of a jacket (nowadays jackets have these cellphone-pockets on the arms - it even fits in there). two batteries and one filled bottle and your are safe and ready for a long sailing weekend...

Have you ever actually seen a Reo? It's about as mechanical as it's possible to get. The button presses down on what amounts to a leaf spring to bring it in contact with the battery. There's no recognizable switch nor are there wires. You could probably immerse it in water, blow it out and use it immediately, if you use atomizers.

Now if you mean the VV Reo, you would be right but, those aren't even available yet.

It's not what the OP was asking for which is why I didn't recommend it but, from a durability standpoint, it would be hard to beat for his application.

Might want to take a look at the maxi roughstack V2 for a low priced one. You'll need to use a shorty extension for tanks.

I have an original tumbled Roughstack short and the extension tube. It is not all mechanical, though. I've had to remove the circuit board and clean out juice that has leaked inside from the button area. And you can purchase extra boards for them.

I got it to take to the woods to work and in case I lost it I would not "lose it" like I would if I lost one of my REOs. They are tough bugers though.

I have an aluminum Don, and it is kicked. I like it a lot for simplicity but if I were getting one again I would go with SS as the aluminum is not as tough as I would like it to be. (I am a major fan of REOs. I doubt there is any mod that can take the beating and continue to work, that REOs have taken. The Metal REOs are totally MECHANICAL; no wires, no circuit board) For light in weight Don is great. The Provari and GGTS were just too heavy for me. I do like my Buzz Pro but it is not mechanical.

the megalodon from ElectronicStix.com is a mechanical and would work great with tanks..

The main disadvantage to tube mods is if you want a lot of juice capacity it's best to go with a tank and therein lies the weakness. Tanks can be broken, by drops or by snagging them on things. Tanks can come off of their bases or tops can be flipped off when snagged. More stress put on connections when dropped and/or snagged. Tanks are much more prone to leaking too. And they just aren't very pocket friendly.

I have tanks and some really nice ones but they can't compete with the durability, ease of use, and no mess that the REOs offer.

If water is a concern I wonder if a REO would a good solution.
I've not tried to hold one under water but wouldn't the same system that feeds the juice work in reverse and allow water in?
Granted water would ruin the juice in a carto but I'd rather lose a ml or two instead of 6ml.

Water won't enter the bottle unless you squeeze (squonk) the bottle while holding it under water.

i have an ss don. one day, the head part (with the atty connection) slipped out of my hands and fell on the kitchen floor. result: a slight bump, on the open thread end. still could screw it to the middle part, but - you know - it hurt me every single time... had to order a new one...
