I sanded my 3 year old oak woodvil & switched it to a natural finish. If you saw/held it you might re-think your opinion of oak.

You might be right. I would even take an oak one. It's all good. I would just prefer a wood with more color and character. I could take a raw oak and stain it and coat it with conversion varnish like I do with cabinets. That would be really nice looking, I think.

I can not WAIT for the mechanical woods to come out. It's so weird. I love my metal REO yet I almost always use my woodville. I just love love love love love that sucker so much more than I thought I would.

Out of curiosity, if one were to guess how big do y'all think they will be in comparison with standard woodvilles of the same type? I really want a grand but the reason I never got a grand woodville in the last run was because I felt it would be bigger than I want. So now I'm wondering if the mechanicals will be similar in size or bigger. Either way, I'll probably end up getting a 18490 anyway because I have really enjoyed using that size. My current woodville is a 14500 but my metal one is 18490 so I'd love to have an 18490 wood for better battery life.

I have a feeling one of the wood mods will look like a grand and the other will look very similar to a standard woodvil . I am trying to get caught up so I can have at some wood mods .-straight from Rob. This is all we know at this point.

I just hope I have money whenever they come out. I want an 18650, any kind of wood, except possibly oak. I love wood with some character to it. I guess I'll just have to wait and see, and hopefully save up enough when the time comes.

The curly oak has a lot of character, more than you would think. I will see if I can find a picture of mine today.

Gotta chime in here to give some love to the Curly Oak. Wasn't too sure when I purchased it that I would love it as much as I do cuz I usually prefer darker woods. However, this bad boy doesn't leave my side for very long. I really have grown to love the nuances in the grain.

Here it is on the right in all its glory:

The run of Curly Oak that Robert has been providing has lots of character! I put off getting one because I liked more contrasting grain.

But with the arrival of my first Curly Oak all that changed! Little squiggly vertical lines and horizontal waves in contrast.

One of the best woods to face the rigors of out and about!

Recently took mine to the state of Washington and out for many trips to view the vast beauty of the Pacific NorthWest!

Whereas I have always wanted an ebony/quilted maple Woodvil evver since I saw MXBNW receive one of the VVWs, I will be happy to get any Woodvil from this run. She will be my sober/inside the house mod while my trust Grand will be my imbibing/at work mod.

Anyone else targeting any particular wood combos?

No combos for me... i need a total purpleheart wood!:D

yes I said NEED:D

Here are my 3 old REO woodvils. I sanded & refinished in natural finish. Also sanded the catch cup height to the same as the new ones. The oak was by far the most improved but all 3 of them are much nicer after refinishing
Walnut - Oak - Cocobolo.
