A DIY e-liquid recipe to create a strong liquid in order to satisfy cigarette cravings for those having trouble switching over 100% to ecigs. The core component is TE, a DIY tobacco extract. I only use VG due to preference but PG would probably work as well. In fact adding some PG would 'hot' it up.
For ~1ml of about 36mg liquid:
10 drops 72mg VG unflavored base liquid
5 drops TE*
Half a drop menthol**
2 drops peppermint oil (pure plant extract, not synthetic)
2 drops caramel / toffee / any strong flavor
Alternative 1:
Use 50mg base and you get ~25mg final result (the original base liquid strength is halved by this recipe).
Alternative 2:
Use 36mg base and you get ~18mg final result.
Using either alt 1 or alt 2 you may then also need a dropper bottle with some 36mg pure VG base - see below.
* TE or tobacco extract/essence is a DIY flavor made by boiling tobacco in VG, which is an excellent solvent and certainly as good as alcohol or water for this purpose. Find various recipes for this in the DIY e-liquid >> Tobacco Liquid Extraction board. It has a little nicotine (not much, probably) but a lot of flavor. Alternatively you can use TA, Tobacco Absolut, from Perfumers Apprentice etc. This has zero nic.
** This is a DIY liquid made by dissolving menthol crystals in a VG / alcohol mix, to taste. It's very strong indeed and you only need a tiny, tiny amount in any final recipe. Overdoing it results in a vile medical taste and no 'menthol effect' at all. Careful! If you have very strong menthol liquid then you might be better off dripping it in using a syringe, a couple of micro-drops from one should be about right. If you overdo it then the mix is ruined and you have to throw it away or double / treble up on everything else. Over-use of menthol wrecks it, the ideal amount is when you hardly know it's there in the flavor.
Notes
This liquid is used when you get a strong craving for a cigarette and don't want to light up. It hits like a mule on 5 volts. Because the original base is diluted 100% with strong flavors, it only has 50% of the original base liquid strength - so if you wanted to get a final result of 36mg strength (which would be good, for this purpose) then you'd need to start out with 72% strength base, which you could create by diluting 100mg base by about 27% (100mg base is likely to be 98 or 99mg anyway, I never heard of a liquid that proved to be the full strength on the label).
I don't have any of that at present so I simply drip some straight 36mg VG base and vape that, then switch to the Megavape mix.
It is designed to supply the other ingredients in tobacco apart from nicotine that cause the craving. Some need this, some don't. If you still get cravings even when using an ecig, then this might apply to you as it does me. The Megavape fixes it. I can't describe this as 'safe' since I've no idea what else is in commercially-supplied tobacco; but there is no tar, or other combustion products such as carbon monoxide, so in theory it's a better solution than lighting up. Your decision.
As regards the safety of making TE, apparently there is little nicotine in it, so there should be few issues. This is because if you take 2 grammes of tobacco and extract a liquid, the most nicotine you could get would be that contained in 2g of tobacco - which isn't much. I'm told that, at the most, in a final TE liquid diluted and ready for use, it would be 2mg (= 2mg/ml or 0.2%).
It doesn't coke up the atty on 5 volts but on a straight 510 running a lot cooler - I don't know. If you use the atty on 5 volts it never needs cleaning.
Adding other hot flavors
You might add any hot ingredient / flavor if that helps for you - PGA (ethanol) or cinnamon come to mind. As there is alcohol in both my TE and menthol DIY liquids, I don't add more (and this probably helps both to heat it up and to clean the atty). Personally I don't like cinnamon but you might.
Also of course, some PG in the base would heat it up. I only use 100% VG, but there is enough vapor in this off a 510 at 5 volts to fog up a room, plus the mix has a lot of TH, so I don't use it / need it.
I gave this in an eGornado to a vape virgin trying an ecig for the first time, he was a big tough looking guy, around 230 pounds, who smokes 40 - 50 a day strong cigs, so I figured I'd impress him a bit. He collapsed in a mega fit of coughing and when it finally stopped, he was looking at me in a different way...
Lucky I didn't give him the 5v job. Those cig smokers are pussies
