I saw those videos and it looks real easy. I really want to see if these Clapton coils will work for me.

For me it can go from restricted to very airy. I like it airy, but I played with it to see how restricted you can make it and I think MTLers will be happy with it. I like it a lot better than the Kayfun v5.@mattymatt82 I am interested in the Taifun Gt 3. How does the airflow compare to the merlin and a Kayfun V5 if you have tried one. I basically MTL and thought i read somewhere the gt3 is very airy. Thank you for any help.
I still use my Merlin, but it has been surpassed by my Taifun GT3s.
My top 3 RTAs are in this order
1. Taifun GT3
2. Merlin
3. Serpent full size Tank
What type of wire are you building claptons with? I will try them very soon. What would be the best wire sizes to start with? I think I will try making some with 2 28g SS with 36g SS to start...To date I have only used my Merlin's in the 25-35 watt range, air flow fully open, 0.6-1 ohm Clapton or similar coils and airflow reducer out. Very enjoyable!
@ricks ,I find Clapton's make lots of vapor since the coil holds more juice, are in need of some watts though, give it a try but don't scrimp on the wicking.
I'd like to now try a different setup for mtl in a Merlin. Any good build suggestions?

I've been using 7 or 8 wraps around a 3mm rod with 30g SS wire evenly spaced in my Merlins. For the Merlin I went with single core 26 awg and wrapped in 32 awg, kanthal A1. I'm not really any great shakes at making these things and you need good eyes, which I don't have, but the 32 wrap was a good starting guage..not sure I'd manage using 36 awg without plenty of practice and working my way to thinner wire.
What sort of coil works best for mtl in the Merlin for you Ricks? I was thinking the coil might need to be as low on the deck as possible to get decent flavor and a 1.5 ohm contact coil kanthal or 0.8 ohm SS spaced coil.
Kanthal works great too. I bought some SS to try temp control but I never had much luck with it. I use the SS in wattage mostly. Lightening Vapes on ebay has some good deals. Thanks for the build tip @ricks , I don't have many sizes in SS wire, at least not any 30
Guess I might need to order some stainless also or else use kanthal , I have plenty.

Or try wrapping some 28g or 26g in parallel with the 24g, then remove the thinner wire for perfect spacing.I use LV not only for wire but juice. Juice surprisingly good given it's known for its wire. Right now my standard build is LV 24ga SS316L 8 tight wraps (no glowing of wire!) which yields .37 ohms. Which I vape in temp control on my DNA200 around 450 F. I need to track down a screw for a spaced build but so far haven't found the time to find the right 3mm ID at a hardware store.

As far as tools for the sizing of your coils, I look for nails, screws, tooth pics, screw drivers and even kitchen utensils... anything that allows me to wrap wire around I will use.
