metal tin to conduct negative - beginner needs help :)

Hey hey folks.
I just want to run this by you guys before I start putting everything together. I've read everything Ican get my hands on, but I'm still a super beginner.
Let's say I'm building a simple battery mod out of a mint tin.
Can I solder a little spring directly to the tin for the negative? Will the tin act to complete the negative circuit if the atomizer connector is also soldered to the tin housing? I'm also using a little ego-t pcb board that needs a negative connection, but can I just solder that to the tin and not have to run a wire to the negative of the battery? Am I getting this completely wrong? Any help would be very much appreciated. Thanks much!

Here's the basic idea.

My one wire altoids tin had spring and 510 connector soldered to the tin which served as ground. Very durable mod.

Should work. I use a 18650 battery holder in mine then solder wire to tin or 510 connector. I just like the convienience of having a holder for the battery.

If you put a proper sized spacer in, you can even avoid the spring... I'll build, imbedding the positive in hot glue, calculating it's width, just so the negative is bumping the lid on close. thus, one wire to the on off switch, to switch, then switch to battery connector...

It worked for me!




I put in a piece of plastic under the positive end of the battery for extra protection against shorts.It's been working fine for six months or so.

Love it. Thanks for the picture. My tin (hula mints) has a slide on top that just barely clears a bare 14500 battery, so I'll have to be careful with that. It's a teeny bit longer and slimmer than your altoids smalls, but super close and it's great to see it in action.
