Not a complaint so much as a plea.
We have all gone through the New Members section and earned our way out. Even so, literally hundreds of us go back there every day to Pay it forward and assist the next incoming rush of New Members.

It is often hard enough to wade through the inaccurate offerings of not so informed persons to Give valid advice and get Members good useable information.

This becomes much harder when suddenly a post is Dropped into a black hole<sub-forum>
Example -

There really is NO need to make the move and most New members that may follow the thread looking for answers will likely think it was deleted once the MOVED Tag times out.

I have no issue with us bottling up Vender threads, saves on weeding through hundreds of post.
This however does not work so well with Noobs looking for Assistance - i.e. not boosting Deals but seeking help.

I would have P.M.'d rather than post, but the Move was not marked by the mod as most are.

Good for you for looking out for the noobs. :toast:This the 1st forum I ever joined. I found it very overwhelming and still cannot find stuff at times but at first I was doing good just to find my way back to a thread I had already posted in. I know it is a huge forum now but at first I didn't even realize that.

I'm with you guys its very hard to be new to forums in general and be put in a situation where it's necessary to understand one as advanced as this. I can imagine more than half the possible members stop after the first half dozen stickies or rules pages. Some folks just want to share their thaughts without having to search for their own threads. I understand the why Of it all I just get...tired or bored...and stop posting. Sometimes its easier to just use a forum without joining and that would seem to be counter to the forums purpose no?

I think the OP has pinpointed a major frustration of using this forum. I've been here about five months. At times I've spent hours searching for information, only to give up. Then I've posted my question in what I thought was the appropriate subforum, and still only got the help I was looking for about 25% of the time.

That said, I've learned a huge amount by browsing, I enjoy the camaraderie in the Lounge, and I've found the majority of members to have a helpful attitude. The amount of information contained at ECF is vast, and trying to pinpoint why this doesn't work or why that item is hard to get or whatever, can be like looking for a needle in a haystack. Plus, most of the members - including the mods - probably don't know how to access the information any better than I do.

So, as in all areas of knowledge, there is no magic bullet. Learning takes effort, and sometimes it comes only through experience. Thanks to the OP for pointing out that many of us do revisit the New Members Forum to pay it forward. This shows the positive and helpful attitude of most of the members, which is the main reason I keep returning.

While I kind of agree with the post - this is one of the best forums around - it has gotten a little big with the creation of so many forums and I feel sorry for the mods that have to muddle through all of it... I believe a 3 day rule would be better than just 24 hours - gives time for some one to come back...

That is probably the best solution. By the end of the 3 days the newbie can have a prayer of having made enough posts to be able to respond in their own thread which has been moved to a place newbies can't post.

The thread in question was moved before the Newbie OP had enough posts to be able to respond to anyone in their original thread. As a result we couldn't clarify the issue the newbie was asking about. :p

while I do understand your viewpoint...as having been a moderator on several busy large forums, I see the flip side of the coin of trying to keep things organized...I agree with moving the thread however I do agree with the issue of this forum in particular of being a new member and having to have x posts before being able to post outside the new member forum would kind of make it difficult for the OP to thus make any replies to their topic once moved.

As for the topic being buried...I disagree as it'd be buried faster in the new member forum as opposed to being moved to another forum

Personally, I think three days is way too long.
If a newbie isn't getting feedback in 24 hours, the thread is dead an buried on page 6 by that time anyway.

Maybe we could encourage newbies to post more information to give us a picture of where they are at now, and what they think they want.
That would be helpful, but it is quite rare that anyone does that.

hahaha that's why I always use my profile to find threads that I've posted in ;) but then again I've been using forums long enough to know things get moved around and/or i'm too lazy to search through pages to find it

I'm not understanding this post. Are you saying new members posts are moved? Because they aren't.

If your talking about general posts being moved to the correct forum that does happen. We have around 17,000 posts a day and they can't all be here.

If people would take a moment to post in the correct forum in the first place, it makes everyone's life easier. For example this thread should be in Site Feedback because it deals with the forum.

I don't think a thread should be moved until it has been here for at least 24 hours.

Because someone posted a health issue, problems with a KR808 battery, a question about e-liquid and protank issue, I'm supposed to leave them all here for 24 hours just because. Maybe I'm missing something.

90% of the subforums came about because members asked for them.

Well, if you're asking for my more detailed opinion...

Yes.

When threads are moved to other subforums that are not as active, they atrophy.
But then again, when they are not getting any action here, they atrophy just as much.

I've seen threads moved from here within hours, and that is not productive in my opinion.
That is why I advocate ignoring threads here until they are past 24 hours from the time they are posted.

It's not perfect, but then nothing ever is.
It's just a thought.
:)

And by the way, thank you for doing this thankless job.
However you feel you have to do it is better than nobody wanting to do it.

And I know I don't want to do it.
:)

Was in the NEwbies forum and got moved to the fasttech forum before the poster had enough posts to use the fasttech forum

A group was created for Fast Tech.

The threads in New Members and General E-Smoking Discussion were growing exponentially (seems to be a popular place)

Normally, no, threads are not moved to a proper area until the OP has the post requirements to post in that area.

This was a mass moving of threads to get them to the group, and those that did the moves took on quite a task, but - unfortunately, there might have been a few threads that the OP didn't have the post requirement.

It only takes 5 posts and a system refresh to get there.

Hopefully the group will make Fast Tech discussions easier :)
