I suffer from chronic daily migraines. Sometimes they get so bad for such a long period of time that I can't and don't vape for a day or more. My cravings can get strong because my PV is relaxing but in reality nicotine exacerbates the migraines. Although on the brighter side since I started vaping and quit smoking my migraines have decreased significatly and is also probably why I was unable to go back to smoking. I may have had it easy but it had a price.

I also find it not possible for me to vape before noon (lunchish perhaps?) as I don't know if I am 'migraine vulnerable' for that moment and the nicotine will initiate the migraine if I am. Now ironicly if it's after noon and my beta-blockers have kicked in and I vape casually I find that I do not get migraines. This could be coincidental too. Actually thinking back there might be a correlation between morning vaping and waiting for my beta-blockers to kick in. I'm not too sure, nicotine withdrawel could play a part perhaps but having migraines can make me fuzzy headed to figure this out. (at the time of writing this I am recovering from one thus finally decided to post on it)

There are too many variables here and I wanted to know if anyone else is in my position to discuss our daily challenge, how we cope and nicotine's role in our life whether it truly benefits us or not.

after alot of scans and disappointments from neurologists I did alot of my own research online and ran across magnesium deficiency and symptoms. I started taking magnesium and eating foods rich in magnesium and the migraines went away. The other day I didn't take any because I was traveling and started getting a migraine. So for me it is now obvious especially when every test came out fine. The neurologist was baffled and just labeled it as status migranosis (a migraine that doesn't shut off and could last hours, days or months). He said I would have to go in for IV treatments or keep taking otc pain meds and muscles relaxers to keep them from getting so bad. I was not satisfied with that answer so I became my own doctor and figured it out on my own at that point. I had a constant migraine for 6 months! Hormone changes can cause migraines too. Being a neurologist he should have known about magnesium I would think but then again you can't make money off of people by telling them to go buy a $8 bottle of magnesium.

I just want to add that I too get migraines, almost on a daily basis. Mine start out as blurred vision, then after about half an hour, my eyes clear up, and then the migraine hits. Normally, I can take advil or tylenol when my eyes first get blurry, then by the time they clear up, the headache is not near as bad. I have gotten them for days and weeks at a time too, like many others. But mine don't seem to be as bad as most, since once my eyes clear up (and if I took some pills) I can keep doing what I was doing. It is fairly rare that I get them so bad that it makes me ill or that I HAVE to lay down and try sleep it off. Those only happen about once or twice a year.

BUT, in the week and a half I have been vaping, I have yet to get one. Obviously, that is way too short of a time to get too excited over, but it is a good sign. I still have had headaches, but VERY minor and they seem like they are just from vaping instead of smoking. little different mix of nic, or something like that.

I had migraines for 7-8 years. A few years ago, a friend recommended this book, and it was perhaps the best $20 I ever spent:

Trigger Point Therapy Workbook; Your Self-Treatment Guide for Pain Relief

I was absolutely shocked to find that my migraines originated from a knot in a shoulder muscle. Using techniques in the book, I was able to eliminate or reduce many of my headaches. I've been even more fortunate - I haven't had a migraine since I started vaping, which has been life-changing. At any rate, the book is a great resource for many different kinds of pain, whether it helps your headaches or not. Best of luck!

*edit* - I almost forgot about the magnesium - I also took a magnesium supplement for the better part of a year, and while it didn't get rid of my headaches, it did seem to reduce their intensity.

Yea Ill check to see if Barnes and Nobles has an ebook for my reader :)

I would LOVE for my migraines to become more manageable, especially since they stopped making the medication that rids me of my migraines. (Midrin)

Lifestyle changes I made that help me:
Switch from flourescent to Incandescent bulbs (40-watts are great :D)
Buy a 120-hertz TV/monitor (if you must do tons of work on the computer)
Take computer breaks every hour to 'reset' your vision
Wear Sunglasses outside always
Low nicotine to assess if your 'state' will permit you to vape (sometimes my head just isn't wanting nicotine)
Drinking Tea daily (Diaretic? high water intake? neutrients? I dont know!)
Read a book if you have a migraine. It is really the ONLY thing you can do when you have a migraine.

Also the book should be real or e-paper. This is for the same reasons as monitors and flourescent lights. All of these flash 60 times a second and just hertz! (lol pun) E-paper burns into the screen and only flashes when you change the page. Oh and the 120-hertz monitor flashes more in one second and makes it less noticable to your head but it still worst than something that doest flash many times a second.

Hope this helps someone :)

I got that book, its excellent. Also tried the Magnesium prior but that didn't help me personally. I still had occassional migraines, then went on the machine. Sleep Apnea. Have not had one since. Did that help? I don't have any scientific evidence for that, but mine have gone. Would I say you need one - no. Just commenting on that the book helped a great deal and after 3 weeks on machine no migraines since. Been on machine since October 2010.

First I want to offer my sincerest sympathies for those who have painful migraine! I get migraine too, but only a few times a year. Also, I'm one of the "lucky" ones, who get all stages except the pain stage....prodrome, aura, I skip the actual pain phase, go straight to postdrome...and am left feeling disoriented, nauseated, and mildly headachy.

Last year my dr put me on a high daily dose of Magnesium supplements for...well...chronic sluggish guts, shall we say? And now that I think of it, I have had only one episode of migraine this year!

Very interesting!

I get migraines too.. I see flashing lights for about 15 minutes and then the headache hits..
I'm confused as to if nicotine is good or bad for migraines?
I might be wrong but I thought migraines were caused by blood constriction in small arteries.
I beleive nicotine and caffiene constrict arteries so shouldn't that make it worse?

yes it makes it worse. BUT, for me, I get much less of them vaping instead of smoking. Not exactly sure why, but I am not complaining. Mine were almost daily and sometimes for weeks at a time when I smoked, now I can honestly say I have only had one or two in the year I have vaped.
