My story is not that different than many others, but I'll share it anyway... I smoked menthol cigarettes from age 17 to about age 27. During that period I would have the occasional D'Jarum Black clove cigarette/cigar or a Black and Mild cigar... After finding out that I have an incurable auto-immune disease called Sarcoidosis, which centers itself in the lungs, I was able to quit almost cold turkey, and stayed quit for over a year. In 2011, I visited New Orleans, and could see the black pack of cloves beckoning me at every mom and pop shop I went into. I bought a pack, trying to convince myself that I was only going to smoke on vacation. Obviously, that didn't happen, and it rarely does. I very quickly picked up a 2 pack a day (12 cigs per pack) clove habit again. About four months ago, I started waking up trying to catch my breath, wheezing and coughing, coughing up some lovely stuff. It honestly felt like my lungs were eating themselves. I had to do something.
I purchased the Blu starter kit at a local gas station, and was both disappointed and discouraged. I sold the whole kit on Craig's List within a week of buying it...
Finally, I headed in the right direction. I am lucky enough to live minutes away from a beautiful, huge "vape cafe", where I began my vaping experience with an Ego twist... Seeing the massive mods that the employees at the ECig Barn were using made me want the best vaping experience I could get, so within 2 weeks I owned a Provari, 2 weeks after that a Vamo, and now an Itaste MVP.
People who aren't familiar with vaping often ask me why I would spend so much money on a huge, lightsaber handle sized mod, and my answer is always the same: The vaping equipment I own has already paid for itself several times from all the cigarettes I HAVEN'T smoked. Because of that, I am very serious about the health benefits I KNOW exist from vaping. Getting off cigarettes was such a struggle for me, but once I found my first little Ego PV, I haven't needed or wanted an analog since. I have more money in my pocket, products that I actually enjoy (both in form and function), and a part in a growing community of other who have learned and benefited as much as I had...
I could go on for days, but I won't bore you.
