Hi, I've just ordered a large bottle of VG juice online and, in a moment of madness, selected a mix with 36mg of nicotine. I'll give it a go but it's probably way too strong. So, I've done a little research and found that my local chemist sells bottles of 'Glycerin B.P. (Glycerol) from a vegetable source'. At a fraction of the cost of my ready made vape mix, I might add. Could I buy a bottle and mix the two?

Just checked it out and BP just stands for British Pharmacopoeiaust which is simply a guarantee that it is high grade. Guess I'm good to go on that one. So, where do I lay my hands on the other core ingredients if I want to start mixing my own? Fairly sure my chemist won't be selling liquid nicotine. And what is it with adding a touch of 'distilled' water to reduce the viscosity? After spending half a lifetime sucking on smoke surely my system can tolerate a splash of good old fashion tap water?

I've yet to dillute with distilled water but I'm probably a novice juice DIY'er. Being in Shanghai its sort of easy to source nicotine. Perhaps someone will chime in soon.

Hi and welcome,
Where did you buy the nicotine base? They may have flavours on offer as well.

Sure you can mix. As was said it can turn too thick for you coil/tank. Dilution with water will help, and you need really small amounts of water (3%-10%). At these amounts you can safely check whether you like water dilution with boiled tap water. If you find you do like it, buy distilled water. Other (more usual) way around - buy PG of BP or USP grade and use for dilution.

The BP seal is what you want, it's essentially the same as our USP, which is what we look for here in the States. Nicotine you will probably have to source online. I use 100mg but I'm not sure you can get that where you are, you might be capped at 72mg/ml I think? Anyway, it's generally advised to get the strongest nic you can, as it's more cost-effective that way and takes up less space in the freezer. VG, you can get online or at the chemist, and if they don't have PG, you can usually find it (over here anyway) at farm/feed supply stores, since it's added to...I think it's goat feed, to keep them from getting some reproductive disorder or something like that. Many people buy flavorings direct from the manufacturers, or else from a specialty DIY supplier online. Popular brands are FlavourArt, The Flavor Apprentice/Perfumer's Apprentice, Hangsen, Inawera, and Capella's.

Tap water has junk in it like chlorine and fluoride (at least here it does, sometimes), and heavy minerals and other stuff you might not necessarily want to be vaping if you can avoid it. Every grocery store in America has distilled water by the gallon for like a dollar. Presumably they have it where you are, too?

Not certain really. I've got a 125ml bottle of VG with 36mg/ml of nic coming in the post which is described as 'Super strong cigar strength'. Ouch. I can buy a 200ml bottle of VG from my local chemist so I figured I'd just mix the two bottles together although obviously the 'Nutty tobacco' flavour will become more subtle. I can't use PG because the cloud gives my girlfriend a headache. Apparently the VG juice is quite sticky and needs to be watered down a tad. I just saw a post that recommended using vodka instead of water. What do you reckon?

Vodka's just ethanol and water. Should be fine. Start small (like 1 or 2%) and then increase as/if necessary.

What mg do you vape currently? 125ml*36mg/ml + 200ml*0mg/ml = 325ml*13.8mg/ml or in other words, if you just mixed it all together, you'd end up with approx. 14mg/ml nic strength.

Thanks for doing the maths. I've been buying a 12mg/ml mix. I'm not sure what's available stateside but, in my experience, that seems to be the strongest over the counter juice available in the UK unless, that is, I buy tiny 10ml bottles or online. Reckon 14mg would work although I may go for a 50/50 mix first and see if 18mg nic is more to my liking.

I think the glycerol your talking about is from boots chemist. If it is I've been using it for years, its really cheap aswell.
