so i decided to try making my own wick/coil for my CE5+ style clearomizers (im using the I-Turbo II (rebuildable 808 thread) and Echo auto's -650 & 1300 - and igo 650mAh revolver (twist) bats) i got some 2mm silica and some Kanthal A 0.20mm / 0.008" / AWG 32.

all-in-all its working out ok, but im not getting the same proformace as the replaceable heads. ive done 4 and 5 wraps around the wick and im seeing around 2.0 ohm's. i getting some spitting of uncooked juice and subpar vapor production. i also noticed my 1300 mAh echo doesn't always like a DIY coil.

any advice?

I do the same, except 6 wraps around 3 .8mm wicks, then, a 2mm wick over top. It helps keep the coil wet(less dry hits) and fills the slots enough to keep from flooding. I have to say, after setting mine up this way, it performs 100% better than stock. I actually find myself preferring it to my nova now.
Suppose I should also mention that after adding the extra wick, it won't hold 1.6ml, prolly closer to 1.3-1.4ml
