What I don't get is how my VTR comes in a bad ... case like this

unyqy2e8.jpg
and my $200+ mods come in bubble wrap, a cardboard box or something like this

Would it Kill the people who took all this time and effort to machine a beautiful piece of equipment to present it in something other than cardboard, tissue paper and bubble wrap?

I love the box my VTR came in. It's already come in quite handy when I packed my mod in my checked luggage while flying. I ended up getting a similar case that matches for holding my juices/toppers/repair parts while I'm on the go.

I don't understand it either. I hate getting pricey stuff in sub-par packaging. My Nexus 7 didn't come in a "flight case" but it was in a robust package that held everything securely, the device itself wrapped in a heavy cellophane, and a little tool for operating the SIM card eject.

For me, those details really do matter in the entire experience.

Innokin stuff comes from China. I am guessing those boxes are cheap to make there. I have several that sit on a shelf and collect dust.

ProVari comes in bubblewrap, which always gets repurposed or popped. Really, I would rather have the bubblewrap because the boxes do nothing for me after they are unboxed.

Basically most fancy packaging would need to be ordered in bulk from China, since that's where most of it comes from these days. Fabricating packaging yourself or ordering it locally is very costly.

However, if I were to offer any products, it would come nicely packaged, because I too feel it adds to the experience in a positive way.

You're not paying for packaging. But that said I hear ya. I was sooo looking forward to my provari as it was my first high dollar mod. To see it just shrink wrapped in a shipping box, well I was a little underwhelmed. Until I used it anyway. My nemesis came in a tiny velvet bag that looked well made but what the hell am I going to do with a velvet bag? Again a little underwhelmed, until I put it together and used it.

It's just a presentation thing to me, and yes I have used my VTR case when I travel to pack mods I'm not using that day but would like to take with me. Kinda like people do with pelican cases. In a world where there are so many mod makers it just shows that extra touch that some of us enjoy.

surefire is a pretty good box as far as high end goes. kato hammer comes in a super duper box. my kaleido came wrapped in Philippine newspaper. I agree a luxury product should have a nice box. the problem is most of the mod makers are small. good boxes would cost them a lot and passed on to us. in the end it is what is in the box. I never wore a watches box. I am a freak though. I keep every box. even for a vivi nova. seriously though they spent a ton on cnc equipment. they are too small to buy box equipment. so they would have to custom order. I would guess that is what surefire did. kato I am not sure. he might have actually made that wood box. seeing as that would cost a lot and the mod is only $240. as far as the world goes Koreans make a good wage. you have to realize in china everything costs nothing. so it is not fair to compare the vtr. anyways no one ever complained about the box their Ferrari came in!

okay you got me there but I was just joking. did you know the Hyundai equis user manual is an ipad? that would not make me buy a Hyundai though. likewise it is the nice mod I am after not the box. interestingly the hammer and king were decidedly better quality mods than the kaleido. don't get me wrong. part of a 5 star meal is the presentation. I just think some of these modders cannot easily affordably obtain fancy boxes. in small quantizes a fancy us made box can be $100 or more by itself. china and volume is a different story. I would prefer a nice box but it won't be a deal breaker if the mod is good. I still don't see how kato managed that box. it is like a $300 humidor.

Part of the cost is the packaging
If the bubble wrap was sub 'd for a fancy box they would cost more

Excuse me if this obvious point has been made

Cheers

Meh... I call bull....

A quick search on alibaba and I can already see you can get wooden boxes with faux leather lined tops for like $3 bucks a piece with as little as a minimum 100 piece order.

I betcha you could even find lighted bracelet/necklace boxes that'll fit a mod in them uber cheap somewhere on the interwebs.

I could care less, as I don't collect expensive mods... but there you have it. If I did, I would side with the OP on this.

5 minutes of google searching and about the cost they charge for a single mod, they could box it for at least 100 customers in something that isn't a POS cardboard tube. Put at least a little effort into it, man.

Fair enough

I didn't research it

At this point I think it would be strange to get a box ... :)
