I see
innokin would be the best brand in this industry
Innokin isn't top of the line, but it's a good, affordable, reliable brand. It's also the maker of what's probably the most popular MTL tank of the past few years.
Given some of your questions, I think it would help to start with an overview of
vaping styles. There are currently three main ways to vape:
Pod mods (example - the Xros you found too weak): Pods vaporize a tiny amount of ejuice at a time. To compensate, they're usually used with very high nicotine juice.
MTL (mouth-to-lung): The middle of the road option. They vaporize a lot more juice than a pod, but are usually used with moderate levels of nicotine. Wattage is also in between - maybe 8 - 20w or so would be common. Airflow is moderate and coil resistance might be about 0.7 - 1.2 ohms.
DL (direct lung): The heavy-hitter option. Likely the sort of device you borrowed from a friend and found too strong, although they are adjustable. They go though a lot of juice, though it's usually around 3 mg/ml, which is a lower level of nicotine. Wattage can be 25 or so to just about anything, although a lot of the people who vape regularly and aren't into producing massive clouds are happy at about 30 - 45w. Airflow is high and coil resistance is below 0.5 ohms and can go down around 0.15 ohms.
Now, about the equipment. Pod mods aren't really interchangeable with any of the other styles. You have to buy the pods and / or coils for the system you've chosen.
MTL and DL can often use the same mod (using lower settings for MTL and higher for DL), but any tank worth vaping will be for one or the other, not both.
With what you've said, I think you're looking for MTL or restricted DL (that's the lower-powered end of DL). You'll need to get:
- A mod, like one of the ones recommended earlier
- If you get a replaceable battery mod, and I recommend you do, you'll also need some batteries and a charger. With the additional components it's more expensive at first, but as you don't have to scrap the whole setup when the battery fails it can wind up more economical in the long run. Also, selecting the correct (and safest) battery can be difficult at first, so if you do take this route please feel free to ask for more battery advice.
- A tank. Here's where you really have to make some decisions. You might want to get a drop-in coil tank or two (an MTL and a DL) to get used to vaping and to find out where you fit on the MTL-DL spectrum. Or you might prefer to dive right in with an RTA. If you want an RTA, the Ares II @Izan recommended would be a good place to start for an MTL tank, or you could read some reviews and ask for suggestions in our RTA forum.
- If you go for the RTA, you'll also need the following (given your background, you probably already have some of it):
- Wire of a suitable type and gauge (the definition of 'suitable' will depend on the RTA you get)
- A coil jig (coils tend to be 2 - 3.5 mm ID)
- Wire cutters
- Suitable cotton or rayon for wicking
- Some little screwdrivers (RTAs often come with the screwdrivers you'll need, but they're not always of the best quality)
- Tweezers - ceramic tweezers can be useful if you'll be working with hot coils
- A good, sharp pair of scissors for cutting the wick
I think that's more than enough for now. If you need any details or clearer explanations, ask away!
