One or both of us is misunderstanding something. I'm sporadic so no surprise if it's me.Take over and liven the groups it is up to you (the members) to do since they are your groups![]()
Of course we could just delete them completely. But that would mean the folks from MN would have to start over completely. I'd rather not take that route.
The group titled "Minnesota Vapers" has 0 Discussions and 0 Messages.are those 2 boards completely dead? then maybe the easiest solution is for sarge to archive them ..........
Oh for pete's sake. There is indeed. And Vapers of MN has 0 Discussions and 0 Messages....looking into some stuff
lol there is also Vapers of MN

To top it off, I just went in to Groups and searched on MN (rather than Minnesota) and the active MN Vapers STILL wasn't found - only the empty Vapers of MN.
These Social Groups are there because someone wanted their own Social Group at one time or another, they may have even been Private at one point in time.
(a couple of years ago there was a hiccup that took away group privacy)
They are independent of each other.
Why not use the Sub Forum : MN Vapers that was created
Front page of Forum
Scroll down to Community
Click on Location Specific
Click on MN Vapers
Jamie, that's because the MN Vapers that C-Dub linked is a Social Group Forum (a subforum), not a "Group" per se. There's Groups and there's Social Group forums, and I think there is some confusion on what is what.
I ran into some of this while setting up the HHV Subforum and Group. Both, the Group and Social Groups are exclusive to each other, one let's you control the security and who can join etc, while the other is more like a subforum found anywhere else on this forum.
this would be because the people that have attempted to start social groups either failed to maintain interest by the members or abandoned the groups. Running a social group takes a certain amount of dedication from both the owner and the members.Okay, think I'm following this so far. We obviously have a drawing board that needs to be revisited. The Minnesota groups issue is merely an instance of the broader problem.
We have a COMMUNITY dropdown on the Links Bar and that dropdown contains GROUPS, which contains 3 dead Minnesota groups that apparently "let you control the security and who can join." 99% of the people who look here will be convinced there are no active Minnesota groups.
Groups are social groups. there are no other groups. We have a COMMUNITY section on the Front Page and that section contains SOCIAL GROUPS that are "not owned or moderated by ECF," and further in teeny tiny print are some additional links wherein one will eventually find the active Minnesota group.
From a user perspective we clearly have a distinction without a difference between COMMUNITY and COMMUNITY and GROUPS and SOCIAL GROUPS.
I understand people worked hard to grow and organize the board, probably multiple times. We can appreciate that and still acknowledge we've ended up in a ridiculous place here.
Your proposal is denied because we cannot merge social groups. And since they are Member run entities merging them and giving control of a group to another group is just fundamentally wrong on many levels. My proposal still stands for moving all the other Minnesota Groups posts into MN Vapers, changing the name of the active group so it can be located, and deleting the 3 useless groups. Of course by doing this, the future interested person going in via the Links Bar will find there are no Minnesota groups at all and probably create one.
The broader problem really should be addressed. Is that discussion already taking place? If not, are there reasons it can't take place?
