I'm seeking suggestions about which kit to get my mom.

She isn't the kind of person that likes to fiddle with things so if possible I think that pre-filled carts / cartos would be best for her, at least starting out.. are there any places that carry pre-filled for a good price with quality and flavor comparable to the boutique e-liquids? Whichever solution has the lowest maintenance would be preferred.

What is the Volt - what model #? That is a weak selection of juices. I do not recommend buying something you don't know the model number of, nor buying auto batteries.

I recommend Vapor4Life.com w/ manual standard size batteries. It is KR808D-1, the most popular 2-piece hardware. Or you could get a simple KR808D-1 kit here for $35 (only missing prefilled cartomizers which you can get at Vapor4Life.com)
http://www.litecigusa.net/kr808d_1_kit_p/808d1kit.htm
Prefileld cartomizers and fancier color kits here
http://www.vapor4life.com/

This won't be cheap though. Prefilled cartomizers are not cheap. Each typically does not last as long as a pack of cigarettes despite what ripoff rebranders say. Most people add juice to cartos. Without adding juice, a carto may last 1/3 to 1 day depending on how much someone vapes. If kept damp with suitable thin juice, a carto can last 4-7 days.

How much does your mother smoke? And what kind of cigs does she smoke - full strength? lights? Ultralights?

I strongly agree to stay away from auto batteries and stick with manual batteries. V4L has a good reputation although I have never used them. But for you Mom to have less hassle, I strongly recommend going with at least a "better battery" beginner PV (personal vaporizer) such as the Riva 510 or 901. 5-6 hours on a charge instead of 1 to 1 & 1/2 hours on a charge. You can get one at Liberty Flights for $30.

You'll probably want a regular 510 kit then. I won one in a contest and it's the only one of my e-cigs I've ever had that my mom could use. If she's smoking ultra lights, you don't want a normal PV that any of us long time vaporers use. The throat hit is probably gonna make your mom cough her head off and think you're crazy for using it and scare her off for life. The original 510 has a very weak throat hit (to me), but still has decent flavor on the juices I tried in it. If you can find that contest thread I mentioned (been going on forever) that supplier has kits with manual batts, auto batts, and you can even get 1 of each to let her figure which one would be better. The cartridges are pretty tiny, but from what you describe, it may take her a few days to use it all. Just my $.02 fwiw.

*edit* That supplier had them for around $19 for the whole kit, you can get them for under/around $30 pretty much everywhere else.

Problem with 510 is it sounds like the OP doesn't think her Mom wants to tinker and 510 has no prefilled cartomizers. And prefilled carts are not practical at all. Other than that, I do think a manual 510 (maybe the mega xl so the battery will last her all day) and self-filled Boge cartomizers would be a good choice too and would provide a somewhat moister softer-edged hit vs Vapor4Life.

Re Vapor4Life - try both 11mg and 8mg for an ultralights smoker. Vapor4Life can have a pretty sharp-edged hit - it's a warmer mini and some of their juices are strong flavored.

FYI - the volt is a KR808D-1
even though i normally would not recommend an auto battery I have found these to work much better than most.
Yes the juice selection is very limited at this time but since I buy my juice from various vendors and fill them I do not find that an issue.
The battery life is decent for this type of model and I must say the vapor produced by these cartomizers surpasses any others I have tried.
I personally have various Mods, ego and many other types of PV's and truthfully this is the one I prefer due to the ease of use, vapor production and minimal hassle. I have been vaping for a long time and have tried many of the vendors all of the ones suggested are very good. I wish you and your mother the best in this journey.

I agree on the simple 2 peice kr808 style. Vapor4life is a good choice. For my hubby who refuses to refill and all that junk(thats what he calls it) I bought a kr kit which he really likes but was more expensive than Vapor4life. V4L has many flvors and strengths to choose from and are the easiest to use. I am a social/evening smoker now and a kr kit works great for me. The prefilled cartomizers are convenient and they come in many flavors one lasts about two evenings and a battery lasts me maybe two evenings. I was a full time smoker up until recently and I could go through 3 cartridges a day and 2-3 batteries. So for a very light smoker I really think your mom would like V4L. She can even get the batteries in many colors and with neat crystals on the ends and different as lights. These also come in manual with a button. I only use prefilled and autos and have not had any problems. Hope you find something your mom likes. It is hard to shop for another, its sort of like buying them a pair of shoes will they fit, will they like em. I had a hard time buying for hubby but it is all good and he likes his prefilled little kit and personal charger.

My kit actually came with prefilled carts. I had to vape the juice out and slowly fill it with strawberry so my mom would use it. She didn't care for the juice it came with. So, it can come with prefilled carts. If she's a light a smoker as he says, she'd probably only need 1 or 2 carts to last her a few days, and he could refill them for her (depending on how often he sees her). The ones I got in my kit were clear above the mouthpiece so you could actually see how dry the polyfill was, which was pretty cool to see what was left and also made for easier filling since you could see how wet the sides were and not just the top.

I had considered the 510 and filling blank cartos with juice my mom might like but I don't see her often enough to be able to keep her from running out.

So far I'm eyeing that Kr808 from litecigusa and directing her to V4L to get the prefilled, they really do have an appealing selection. Just worried a little about the TH she would get, I guess I could just tell her to be cautious of big drags and with a bit of coaching it might work out ok. I've seen her bum stronger cigs occasionally from my sister.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone!

That's why I thought starting out with a cheap but decent e-cig would be the best way to start out in case she doesn't like it. Something similar to cigarette shape, no massive throat hit we vaporers have all come to love, and ease of use. I don't know about the 808 so I can't say anything on it. But the 510 I got in the contest wasn't too bad really. I think the auto switch is actually not a bad thing for a first time user. It works identically to a real cigarette, so maybe a kit with one of each would be the way to go, a manual and auto batt. That way they have the option. I got mine with an auto bat cause sometimes it's better to have an auto (driving, working with your hands, times when you can't really give up a hand to hold a button and just hold the tiny lil lightweight e-cig between your lips and suck like a regular cig). Try doing that last part with an ego, go-go or box mod even. :)

She still vapes the KR808 occasionally but a lot of money was spent getting her to the $30 ego.

This is my personal opinion, not my Mom's. She probably needed to go through all the steps because the first couple weeks she was a little frustrated. The buttons bugged her, etc. etc.

Frankly it's a miracle that she's vaping and I give her so much credit. I would have bought 100 kits and it'd be worth it. I really owe it all to this board and the help I got every step of the way.

No, I think you gave good advice. I was doing a little grumbling out loud. She recently told me she wants something with a bigger battery. I created a monster!

LOL it sure sounds like it :) Your Mom is definately an official vaporer now. Now you just need to get her on the board and she'd be doubly official lol.

Trust me- you do not want me to do that! She's bad enough with the phone. If she got on the board I'd have to pry her little .... off the chair.
