Actually, in my Phidias the spring is mostly collaped too. If it were to heat up and melt, I think the remaining bead would still conduct.
Yes that sounds like common sense. I did put wood selection pictures in my profile folder. And I tried to do them in the thread. But some people are still confused so maybe I didn't show them in the simplest way. I am famous for not being clear enough sometimes.

OMG. I wished I didn't see that bottom board of Cocobolo with a lot of sapwood. (sapwood, I think thats what you call the lighter part from the heartwood.) ?
I think it's called kailidascope. (sp) Just drop dead gorgeous. Quite sexy wood.
What would really be cool is to look over the boards and decide exactly which part you want to use for a PV!
