More states raising tobacco sales age to 21

Yesterday I saw that Massachusetts raised their minimum age to buy tobacco from 18 to 21 state-wide. This will take effect Jan. 1st 2019.

I don't really care that they raised the age. States all over America are raising the age. I want to hear all the reasons for and against raising the overall tobacco sales age to 21 and what it's actually going to accomplish.

I'm pretty much on the fence about my thoughts on this. I started smoking and chewing well before 18. While I don't want kids smoking and chewing. I don't really see how its going to deter kids from using tobacco products when most kids who use tobacco start under 18 to begin with.

As you note there will be little or no effect by changing it.

I don't really care that they raise the age either. But if you are an adult allowed to vote at 18 and can serve in the military at 18, I don't see why you wouldn't be allowed to buy tobacco at 18

If anything, raising the age will cause more kids to smoke. One of the reasons I started smoking was because I wasn't supposed to.

Tucson is planning to raise VAPING to 21, and leaving the smoking age alone, in a NOT QUITE ENTIRELY BLATANT attempt to get 3 years of 18 year olds hooked on tobacco. This is their first "vaping ordinance" so far, I guess we shall see what the Future Brings.
