Arthur Robert Ashe Jr was a tennis athlete and an activist. Ashe became the first African-American male player to win the US Open and Wimbledon. He was also the first black American to be ranked #1 in the World and still holds that title as the only African-American male player to do so. He holds the same title for Wimbledon. More 'Firsts' include, first African-American to be recruited by the US David Cup team and first black US citizen to be inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame. His success also brought opportunity. With his unique metaphorical pulpit, he pushed to create inner city tennis programs for youth and helped found the Association of Men's Tennis Professionals. I'm sure, due to what must have been a very active lifestyle, it can be said that he was definitely physically loose........and through diligence and focus, all that success and skill must have come from being mentally tight.
