Forgive me. I can't recall having apple dumplings even as a kid. Deprived I know. So if you wanna know if it tastes exactly like apple dumplings, wait for someone else to chime in.
A light, fairly subtle, apple flavor, with also a doughy/pastry taste as you might expect from the name.
It is a good blend with the apple being the slightly more dominant flavor, followed by a light caramel brown sugar It has a nice slightly tangy/sour finish. It is not super sweet. I don't really wish to rate it not having apple dumplings, but it is a pleasant flavor that I like and definetly not just your typical-apple.
