Movie Quiz 78

Hey guys, it's time for a new Movie Quiz! This time around, it's is all about oldies. Each of the movies featured in the Quiz was released between the mid-1950s and the late 1970s.

So, if you're old, or if you're just a big movie fan, there's a pretty good chance that you've seen most of these films. If you're old and you're a big movie fan, I'd be surprised if you haven't seen `em all.

The thread will run its course for a week or so, and I'll bump it with hints and whatnot as needed. Answers will most likely be posted next Wednesday or Thursday.

There are eight screenshots below. Most of them should be fairly recognizable if you've seen the films. So, which of these movies can you identify?

Got most of them right off the bat.

#5 looks really familiar but I can't quite place it.

I have absolutely no idea what #6 is.

I knew all of them right away except #6, but I kept looking at the picture and knew who the actress was and one film that she was always known for - not that I ever saw it.

Time for some hints…

#1: The name of the car pictured is also the name of this 1968 British musical film. It was based on a book written by Ian Flemming, author of the James Bond novels.

#2: Chronologically, this is the second of the two highly-regarded, landmark films that Robert Redford (on the left in the screenshot) and Paul Newman made together in the 1960s/1970s. This would be the one that’s not a western.

#3: Clint Eastwood plays a hipster DJ, and the woman next to him in the screenshot wants desperately to be his girlfriend. You might also recognize her as the matriarch of the Bluth family on Arrested Development.

#4: In the college town of this film’s setting, the group of friends pictured are townies, (called “cutters” in this movie), who end up entering a cycling competition against the college’s team. This is Daniel Stern’s first movie, and in the screenshot he’s standing between a young Jackie Earle Haley and Dennis Quaid. Dennis Christopher, on the far left, plays the main character.

Hints ahoy!!

#5: This movie, from 1978, is a remake of a classic 1956 sci-fi film. Perhaps this would have been more of a dead-giveaway screenshot:

#6: The screenshot is from the original 1958 version of this comedy, which featured Rosalind Russell (pictured) in the lead role. It was remade in the mid-1970s as a musical, starring Lucille Ball as the title character. She is eccentric and ostentatious, and with the unexpected death of her brother, she has been put in charge of raising her orphaned nephew, Patrick.

#7: “Mrs. Robinson, you’re trying to seduce me.” . `Nuff said.

#8: Surprise, surprise, I’m using another sci-fi movie in a Quiz! This one is the film adaptation of a 1969 Michael Crichton novel by the same name, and it’s about a virus-like organism from space that makes its way to Earth aboard a crashed government satellite. Almost everyone in the tiny New Mexico town of the crash site dies very quickly, their blood turned to dust.
