First let me say that I am not a smoker. I got involved with e-cigarettes because my father is a smoker and has been since before I was born (which is a long, long time, let me tell you). He has tried in vain to quit smoking many times over the years, but cigarettes have a strong hold on him. One day I got the bright idea to buy a starter kit of these new-fangled things called e-cigarettes, even though he told me he already had tried them once. (After further discussion, I found out he had tried a disposable e-cig by a company called njoy, which he bought at Walgreens and hated, consequently causing him to judge all e-cigs as "gross.")

Anyway, I bought a starter kit by Blu Cigs because it seemed affordable, the website was easy to navigate for someone who knew absolutely nothing about e-cigs, and there were cool little techie aspects to their whole marketing ploy that appealed to me. I bought it, he tried, he loved it. It is now almost 2 months later, and now that my dad has had time to experiment with everything in the kit, he finds some things that concern me. 1) The batteries don't last long enough and he is constantly having to switch them out/charge the pack. 2) The vapor is not thick enough, so he is not being satisfied by the puffs, which has caused him to go back to the "analog" cigs a few times. 3) The hardware seems to be on a down hill decline, working less and less efficiently as time passes.

My dad is almost 70 years old, retired and previously a senior mechanical assembler. While he is very mechanically inclined, I really don't want him to have to fuss with the gadgets to get them to work. I want him to have satisfying puffs that do not make him long for "real" cigarettes. I don't want him to walk around, constantly worrying that his e-cig battery is going to die at an inopportune time. On the other hand, my dad LOVES the different flavors available, he loves that the e-cig looks and feels like the cigarettes he is used to, and he loves that they come in different strengths. (He had been able to wean himself down to ultra lights, and he finds that Blu's "light" is comparable to the strength he is used to.)

I am hoping that some of you experienced, knowledgeable, e-cig savvy people out there can give me some advice about where I should go from here. I am looking at buying V2's Ultimate Kit or White Cloud's Cirrus 3X Kit. Any advice, opinions or comments about either of these companies would be much appreciated, as well as any suggestions for something better. I'm not really worried about cost, so much as quality.

Thank you to anyone who takes the time to help me, help my dad.

First of all I want to commend you on helping your pops! That is way cool. Second, I would probably suggest getting an Ego kit they usually come with 2 batteries and will last a heckuva lot longer than the blu ecigs. I'm sure the more experienced users will have better options. I just started vaping for about a week, and haven't touched an analog since. I started off with. 1000 mah ego twist and that lasts me through out the day and night. Good luck to you and your father!

Hi Owl, and welcome.

There are much better options than Blu and V2.

If you have to have a cigalike, I suggest a Volt starter kit from Smokeless Image.

Smokeless Image | Only The Best Electronic Cigarette | Smokeless Image Electronic Cigarettes - The Future is in your hands

If you don't mind a bigger (well, fatter) battery, please consider an eGo-C Twist or Vision Spinner. They offer variable voltage and can be used with so many different heads--from cartomizers to the new BCC fillerless clearomizers.

Was just going to recommend the ego-c twist or vision spinner as well. Both are variable voltage (which means you can adjust the output of th device and get more vapor production, a quality that NJOY or Blu cigs lack). You have great suggestions with the previous posts. Good luck!

The first combination that worked for my daughter was an eGo battery with a CE4 clearomizer. Although other clearomizers are also good. It's the combination of decent battery life and the ability to see when it needs to be refilled. Plus the CE4 is probably the easiest clearo to refill since it doesn't require a needle to refill.

The 650 mah eGo batteries are short and fat, actually kind of cute. And, the CE4 matches the size of an eGo battery well. You can even get the battery and clearo in matching colors if you want.

I know it's not cig-sized. But, it is relatively small and very effective.

The Twists and Spinners are even better, but a little longer.

Good luck!

What a wonderful son you are to be so helpful to your dad! Best of luck finding something that satisfies him enough to keep your dad off cigarettes.

The Joye eRoll sounds like it will be perfect for what you are wanting. It's quite the little powerhouse for a cig-alike form factor. The stylish iPhone-type PCC case that houses the battery is only 4 1/4" x 1 7/8" x 1/2". It is 1000 mAh which means it is good for about 10 hours of average vaping before needing to be recharged.

The cig-alike battery is 80 mAh but you use it by taking a few vapes and putting the battery back in the case fully assembled—very handy and easy, peasy. In practical terms that means that the eRoll will last as long as the PCC is charged.

I have other more powerful devices but the eRoll is my go-to device for out and about and when I just want to sit down and enjoy a vape with a small uncomplicated device that closely mimics the ritual of smoking.

Even if your dad eventually decides he would like to move on to more powerful, complex vaping devices the eRoll will likely still be a welcome addition to his gear arsenal. Many experienced ECF vapors enjoy their eRolls as well as newbies.

It's tricky filling the eRoll tanks that hold the juice with without using a needle tipped bottle, Innokin U-Can or a blunt needle-tipped syringe. Exhale Vapor usually has the cheapest price on eRolls but they seem to be out of stock. If you are interested in purchasing one for you dad you might want to email them to see when they will have more in.

These reviews cover how the eRoll works. The eMini is identical to the eRoll with a different brand name on it.
eMini E-Cigarette Review (aka eRoll)
Joyetech eRoll Review. This little eCig is AWESOME!

@ Katya: I looked into the Volt and I bought the premium starter kit today (plus a car charger). They look close enough to regular cigs that I think my dad will be ok with trying something new. I am hopeful that the batteries and puffs outperform Blu, which is what he has been puffing for the past month and a few days. I read several reviews on the Volt and all of them talk about the good quality vapor and that the battery seems to last quite well. Thanks for the advice and hopefully this will be just what my dad needs!

Good choice going with the volt. Some people after trying the cigalikes will start getting into the bigger batteries, and plus there's so many options cause alot of them can be customized to your liking. Good job on helping out your Dad, I'm working on getting my girl converted also, I'm going to have to get a her a girly pinky bejeweled one, but hey.. whatever works!

I'm sure they are outperform the Blu batteries, and they are a much better value. And if those batteries are not enough for your dad, Volt offers larger 510 batteries and their own kr808d-1 version of the Spinner and clearomizer. You can go all the way up with that one supplier and try different things.

Good luck to both of you!

@ RooRooBears: Thanks very much for the info, I read about the Ego today and it looks like it will be a good alternative if the Volt doesn't work out. It does seem like it is a bit more advanced than these others that I've been looking at and I don't know if my dad's ready for that yet, but it definitely looks like a good quality alternative for the future, especially if he decides to stick with vaping for good. Thanks again!

@ mynamesreallong: Thanks for your input! I may look into the Ego in the near future since so many people have commented about it. Thanks again!

Might I recommend http://www.myvaporstore.com/Vision_Spinner_Joye_Ego_C_Twist_Combo_p/vvs-c.htm

For the options two Vision Spinners (color of choice) and some Vision Clearomizers (color of choice)

It's a build your own kit too, so if you read any different about clearomizers... choose the kangers instead.

Hard price to beat for a starter kit IMHO.

Let us know if you go down the road less traveled.

@ peraspera: Thanks so much for all of the info you provided! Wow, great advice. I was THIS close to buying the eRoll today, but for some reason I didn't find the website to be easy to navigate. Either they were out of stock or I wasn't doing something right. Anyway, now that I know about it, I can go back to it in the future if the Volt doesn't work out. I love having so many alternatives, when just yesterday I felt like I had no idea what to do next! P.S. I'm his daughter. :)

Like allot of others I recommend the twist/spinner. I started with a cig a like because I like that size, switched to the twist and it satisfied my need to smoke perfectly and the battery lasts allot longer. With 2 twists at only 650mah there is no way I will run out of battery life in a day. One battery lasts me easily a whole day.

THIS is the kit I recommend most. While it may look a bit complicated at first I am sure that anyone moving up from "cigalikes" will be quite pleased with the flexibility and durability of it. While they give you a choice of either the ego "Twist" or the vision "spinner", and they are more similar than different, my wife and I hands down preferred the spinner (1300mah, the largest). We have three of them now.
