There's a lot of talk going on here about venting of the SB, and the crowd seems to be split straight down the middle about who wants venting, and who doesn't. I'm in the crowd of the latter. I believe I've also read a couple posts about adding some vent holes to the bottom.

I wonder if there would be a way to sell the parts as ala carte. It might end up narrowing down the color choices for one side or the other at any given time, but I think it would be worth it for the people that want an unscathed mod.

Say I wanted to just get a Silver Vein bottom sleeve with vent holes, if I could go to the SB order form and just order the bottom. Or if I wanted a non-holed sleeve, likewise. If I wanted to buy a different color top-cap, I could go do that.

Would this be a possibility? That way the 'NEED MORE HOLES' crowd is happy, and the "Don't drill my SB!" crowd is happy too.

Just some food for thought. :)

To be honest I am still quite on the fence about it all. I know that the switch vents work, I have tested it and I have seen it. I expect one that had staked batteries explode in the mail Monday. I have seen the pictures and I have the customer's permission to post her email and pictures. I am trying to figure out a way to post about it without tooting my own horn and saying I TOLD YOU SO!

Actually exploded, not just vented and popped the switch? I can't wait to see the pictures of that...and I'm sure plenty of people will help with the horn tooting. There's a lot of people that agree with you on this, but our society is designed to appease the people that scream the loudest, even if they're not the majority.

Frankly, though, I only brought it up because I'm getting sick of the fear mongering that goes on with everything. I don't want my collection of mods to be tainted by 'extra blah blah for safety' crap.

And This: http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...ecf-metal-tube-mods-safety-specification.html disgusts me. I realize that it's not the handbook for making mods, but it will influence some people, and that should be discouraged.

The lower battery has nothing left to it. It expelled it's guts. The switch raised up about 3/16 of an inch. It happened in mid hit after using the batteries for a few hours. I have a few things to take care of this morning then I will post it up this afternoon.

I was unaware of the EMSS. Thanks for that link. I share your disgust. I disagree that it's not a handbook. If ECF starts slapping mods into categories of dangerous or not dangerous, based on their compliance with these specs, it will become a de-facto handbook for anyone who wants to avoid bad PR and stigma. But, it appears to be a CYA document for ECF as much as anything else. It's an exercise in hysteria and pandering. While there are some common sense suggestions, I find the section on slotting to be particularly odious. Three 2" long slots minimum? Perforated metal tubes? I thought I was making a joke when I mentioned to Chad "why not just use mesh". But there it is, suggested in the spec. Ridiculous.

It's ironic that these "specifications" appear in a forum where people commonly complain about governmental regulations that attempt to make everything child safe and idiot proof. Yet they take the position that no matter what stupid thing any user does with a mod, it must be able to withstand it without posing any risk of serious injury lest it be stigmatized and labeled "not safe". A nice sentiment, but I wonder how the specifiers felt about similar objectives regarding automatic blade disengagement devices required on lawn mowers to protect people who stick their hands in the blade.

If the gov't came out with these same specifications, people would be up in arms about it and complaining of the "nanny state". Granted, the gov't. would have force of law. But the end result is the same if ECF starts their stigmatizing campaign and mfgs. are forced to comply in order to avoid being denigrated and labeled as unsafe in published material on this site. Surely, some people will buy a non-compliant mod. But many people, particularly those who are buying their first full-blown mod, will just blithely accept that a non-compliant mod is inherently dangerous. That will punish manufacturers who have designed adequate venting without resorting to big gaping slots almost as surely as if these specs had been promulgated by the CPSC and enforced by law.

So, in the end, Chad might have no choice. Even his pepper shaker bottom may be insufficient to spare his mods from the Slot Police who, in a few months, may decide to brand it with a scarlet letter. Which begs the question; who is this crack team of designers and engineers and what are their qualifications? Where is their testing lab? Where are their experiments and calculations verifying that the size of slots they deem sufficient are indeed sufficient and not fear driven overkilll? They missed the mark when specifying AW IMR batteries as the safest IMR's. (Panasonics are at least, if not more safe). Why should their expertise wield undue influence over the design of another mfgs PV under pain of being branded as unsafe? I guess now we can look forward to safety ratings of every mod by the self appointed experts at ECF.

Latly, once ECF decides to become the arbiter of safety and designates a particular design as safe or unsafe, it's not unreasonable to believe it is assuming some liability in connection with the sale or promotion of devices that, by its own criteria, are unsafe. So, if your device is not compliant with their specs, ECF might be forced by legal considerations to prohibit its promotion on their site. It's only a matter of time and a sharp lawyer.

Easy question! What is the diff between the Black Chrome and Black Coated colors? I know one has black button and the other silver.

Is one more durable than the other?

Jeff "Jagellpuff" via iPhone using Tapatalk

The Black Chrome is black chrome, the Black coated is powder coated. They are both about the same durability, the black chrome will wear down to a smoke tone after a while and may lighten in areas where you wear jewelry
