I'd heard of the band Spoon, but I didn't really know any of their music. So, on a whim, I bought their latest CD, Transference about a month ago. After listening to it more than a few times through, I realized that I'd discovered a new band I like. I love it when that happens!

So, I read up on them them a little, and picked up two of their previous releases, Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga and Girls Can Tell.

So far, I like Girls Can Tell best. Here are a couple of highlights:

Everything Hits at Once

Take a Walk

Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga has some really good tunes on it as well, but it's just not as solid, overall. These are a couple of choice cuts:

The Underdog (If you've heard only one Spoon song, this is likely to be it.)

Rhythm & Soul

And here's two quality tracks from Transference:

Got Nuffin (The song ends at around 3:55. I have no idea why the clip runs out to 5:33.)

I Saw the Light

So, there's a Spoon sampler for you. If these songs appeal to you, I'd highly recommend rummaging around YouTube for more, and maybe picking up a CD or some mp3s. Definitely quality stuff from a quality band, IMO. I'm happy I found them.

The newest release from NOFX is called The Longest EP, and it's a 30-track collection of most of the band's EP-only songs.

I've been listening to the CD in my car off and on for about a week, now. It's definitely a bit hit-or-miss, but that's pretty much what I'd expect from a collection like this. Overall it's a pretty good album, but it's not among the CDs I'd recommend for a NOFX neophyte. However, it contains enough quality songs that it's worth picking up if you're already a fan.

Here's a standout cut. Enjoy!

Nice one, FreakyStylie! :toast:

Now, I've got another self-indulgent post of obscure and semi-obscure Boston bands from the `80s. For those who bother to check out the songs, I hope you hear something you like...

Boys Life - It Came from Here

The Blackjacks - (That's Why I Always) Dress in Black

Buffalo Tom - Taillights Fade

Sex Execs - My Ex

Dogzilla - Lunch with Ed
