I'm getting frustrated because my new gear does not seem to be performing very well and now my little black ohm reader crapped out. According to this I can use my 24 gauge A1 kanthal and wrap 2 coils 8 times around a 3/32 mandrel and I will get close to .30 ohm build. Will this work with my new gear? I can't test it until payday when I will just buy a multi-meter.

Thanks everyone.

A multimeter may not be a good idea... Unless you get a really high quality one, it's going to be much less accurate than an ohm meter & leaves more room for human error (especially if you don't know how to use one properly).

Other than that, it should work, and the method you described should be ~.3Ω. The MNKE batteries I've found aren't the greatest... You'd notice an improvement with better batteries. What did you mean by your new gear doesn't seem to be performing well?

It looks like you are correct. 8 wraps of 24ga around 3/32 should be ~0.3 ohm and that makes for a 14A draw. You'll be ok with that build. I don't have experience with the MNKE's but they are rated at 20A continuous. That leaves you 30% headroom.

I agree with Dissonance. I have 2 multimeters and both are useless for measuring sub-ohm coil resistance. I know people don't have great luck with the little 510 ohmmeters but a multimeter that's good for checking sub-ohm builds cost hundreds of dollars. I just try to be real nice to my 510 ohmmeter. I don't tighten the atty on too hard and I don't use it as a build deck.

I stepped up from my k100/IGO-L to a Mutant clone, a TOBH clone, and new MNKE 26650 battery with charger. No matter what build I do my coil never really pops like I see in the tutorial videos that I copied to a "T". I just checked my TOBH clone again and right now it's at .9 ohms. Fresh battery and it's still just kind of hissing.

All I can say is that my k100/IGO-L is kicking ..... lolz

If you're coils are heating up nicely before wicking and they're glowing pretty fast (within 3-4 seconds of firing), then you have a wicking issue on your hands. Try a different wick method. If your coils are not heating up evenly and quickly then you don't need to re-wick, you need to rebuild.

Yes, and/or grab some ceramic tipped tweezers and reshape the coils if they aren't heating evenly. I've fixed a lot in my mere handful of builds with those bad boys. Be easy with them. Kanthal is VERY malleable when hot. I squeeze w tweezers, fire and let go of fire button as soon as I see movement. Repeat as needed.
