both are pretty similar, both have a very good track record. I would chose the Istick50, its a little more ergo friendly but that's just me and only because I've already got several MVPs.

Given all of the recent istick 50W auto-fire issues that have been popping up here and on Reddit, I would say that the 50W currently does not have a very good track record.

OP, until iSmoka/eleaf put out a statement saying they've corrected the auto-fire issue, I'd suggest you go with the MVP.

Innokin has been in the vaping business longer and has a good track record for quality products. Eleaf iStick is a relative newcomer so we don't know what its track record will be.

The iStick 50 watt specifically has had some troublesome issues from the start: faulty meter readings, faulty voltage regulation, sticking fire buttons, auto firing mishaps, even some units which caught on fire. Eleaf/iSmoka has not always honored their warranty according to some customers.

The choice seems pretty clear to me.

With all the questions currently about the iStick 50, I would recommend the MVP 3 Pro. I have both and like them both. The iStick 50 does have an advantage in size being that it is a lot smaller than the MVP 3 Pro. The MVP 3 Pro does have the power advantage in that it tops out at 60 watts versus 50 watts. The iStick does allow you to change the wattage in 0.1 watt increments while the MVP 3 Pro changes in 0.5 watt increments, although I doubt anyone really needs the granularity of 0.1 watts.

But you know someone will come in this thread and say 25.4 watts is too hot for me and 25.2 I get no clouds. For me I wouldn't care if a box went in increments of 5 watts. I don't notice much difference in 1-3 watt changes.

Whenever I change wattages, I usually change it in 5 watt increments as well, or at least 3 watt increments. I can't distinguish the difference any lower than that.

MVP3 Pro, but if you have compatible battery and charger , another option would be IPV Mini 2 70 watt
WakeandVape has for the same price as two mods you mention.
50.50 plus ship (tax if you in Cali)

I didn't want to link, cause I have no idea on the rules about linking to vendors here.

I bought mine from them and had no issues with it.

I was toying with the MVP3 or the eLeaf 50W. I'd already had the MVP2 and while I liked it, it's battery life was really rather poor. What I mean is that I bought it in Jan 2014, and by Jan 2015 the battery would last about 10 or 20 puffs of a simple nautilus tank at 1.2Ohm. So I didn't want to buy another one thinking that might simply be their battery lifespan.

I went with an eLeaf 50w (as did my partner), mine has been flawless (so far, keeping my fingers crossed), where as his used to autofire if he was holding it at a certain angle to vape, then when he let off the trigger it would continue to fire. He took it back to the shop and they opened it up and cleaned it out and told him that they found "dust" inside of it, I'm going to take the stretch and assume they found metal flake dust from the mfg process and cleaned that out. It's been fine now for a few weeks since they did that.

I imagine that there will always be defective units that roll off the assembly line but out of the thousands, tens of thousands, hundreds of thousands of units produced the number of complaints seems relatively small to me. Still, it sucks to be that person that wakes up in the middle of the night by the smoke alarm in ones home to find that the rag your mod was sitting on being charged has burst into flames and lit up the kitchen curtains etc.

But beside the short battery life of my MVP2, I really just like the way the eLeaf fits in my hand, it's just so much more comfortable and feels a lot smaller.

Knowing what I know about the defects that have been found in it, I'd still take the chance and buy another one if I didn't already have one.

As long as you aren't the vendor, I don't think there is any issues with posting links here.
