Hey all.

I wanted to post a few pics of the box mod I just finished. It is my first and I learned a lot in the process. I also learned a lot from the posts made by many of the members here, so I want to say thank you for sharing your knowledge and ideas.

It came out almost as well as I had hoped. I got a little over zealous with the file and made the USB port and screen cutout a bit proud. I used a piece of clear lexan to mount the screen to and mounted that to the box. I may remove it and see how one of Bap's bezels looks, or maybe I'll tint the lexan black. We'll see. I've put it together so I can remove components easily if I want or need to. The only thing that got epoxied was the charging board. The up/down buttons are press fit as well as the keystone sled. I sanded the sled down just enough to press it in tightly. I used blue loctite on the fire switch and 510. The screen, board and lexan are all secured with 5LB double sided tape.

My OCD perfectionism couldn't deal with the Hammond lean, so I sanded the box to square it up on all sides. It stands straight now. I powder coated it with "cosmic black" and then a clear gloss powder. It looks slippery smooth, but it's surprisingly grippy in the hand. I love the color as it's a flip-flop between green, black and a reddish root beer color. My only gripe about the finish is the gloss clear powder made this a dust magnet. Next time I will try a satin clear coat. It's dark and rainy here so doing the color justice with indoor lights and my camera skills was very difficult. You may be able to see the color flip flop in some of the pics.

This will not be my last mod. I enjoyed making it and have plans for a few others, so any comments, critiques or advice is much appreciated.

Thanks!

Thanks rhelton. It's a great little palm sized box with enough room for a couple of options for board/screen mounting. It feels good in the hand width wise, about the size of a deck of cards or pack of ciggs. I can have it in either hand and it's very comfortable for my thumbs to hit the fire switch. If I had mounted the fire switch on the sides like most do, it also would have been comfortable and natural to hit the switch with either my thumb or forefinger, depending on which hand I had the box in. It's easily pocketable too.
