My 510 is on the way...

Little background. 26 years old, been smoking since I was 12/13. For the past 6 years, I've been smoking 1mg analogs, generally half a pack a day.

So a buddy of mine was using a joye eGo which basically introduced me to vaping. I decided after some thought that I wanted an ecig for certain situations, like driving my new car (i love smoking whilst driving, yet I hate the fact it is smelling my car up), or around my parents who are very anti-me smoking (I can easily quickly vape whilst out of site from them). If I ended up highly enjoying it and it caused me to quit smoking, then of course that would be an excellent bonus.

After some quick research, I decided to get a Joye 510 with a bunch of liquids from Electronic Cigarette Supplies & Electronic Cigarette Refills for Name-Brand Electronic Cigarettes! E-Cigs from LiteCigUSA. As I live in Australia, I realize it will take a week+ to get here, however according to the tracking number I received, the order was sent in less then 24 hours (pretty good imo).

Now I'm sitting here anxiously awaiting likely another 4-5 days minimum for my package to arrive, and realize there is such a wealth of information on the topic that it's hard to know where to start looking to really learn about what I've gotten myself into, so a few questions from a n00b to those that know about vaping:

1) Did i make the correct decision to start off with the joye 510? What do I need to know about the joye 510?

2) I ordered a total of 60 MG of liquid. Roughly, how many analogs is that? I believe it is quite a lot, but as it is going to take a week+ for any orders to get here, just trying to get a rough idea of when I would need to order more.

3) If I vape, will my clothes/surrounding area reek of it? i.e. if I vape in my room, if someone comes in, will they wonder wtf is going on?

Any advice is appreciated.

Thanks.

Hi and welcome to ECF. There's an Australian forum somewhere on here that might be helpful to you.

1. The 510 is a good solid little unit. I used one for a while and it got me off the analogs completely. The only drawback is the short battery life.
2. I vape an average amount, 2-3 ml per day. 60 ml would last me about 3 to 4 weeks.
3. The smell goes away very quickly. Some juices don't have much aroma at all, others it goes away within a minute or so. If you vape in an enclosed room for long periods it will start to smell musty though. I vape in my office all the time, my wife has no clue how much I vape. If you want to keep the smell down, vape fruit flavors. They smell sweet, tobacco smells more musty.

Good luck and if you have any more questions just ask.

1) Joye 510 is a good choice, the knock on them is short battery life.
1/2 pack a day smoker, you may not vape as much as some of us.

2)This would depend on the nic strength, but for me (former 1 1/2pad)
60 ml will last a couple, few weeks. Figure 2-3 ml a day habit. YMMV

3) You will not reek of smoke!! There may a little smell of cinnamon buns,
licorice, root beer, etc depending on the flavors you choose.

Possible questions "you bought cinnamon buns and you're not sharing"

NO OBJECTIONABLE smells even with tabacco flavors, very mild if any.

Well there weren’t any responses when I started typing, so I’ll just restate what everyone has already said (I need to start writing these things faster)

I’m not a vet by any means, but a lot of folks started on the 510, including me. It’s main weakness is battery life. From reading your post it sounds like you want to give vaping a try and see what happens. If you like it, if you think it will replace your smoking habit, or at least a large part of it, you’ll probably want to add some additional gear if you didn‘t get it in your first order. Depending on your life style, consider adding either an ego/ego clone, a PCC or a USB passthru. Those should help solve the battery issue. You also might want a spare battery or 2, a couple of spare atties or some cartos, a drip tip and you’ll certainly need more juice. Expect to use 2 to 6 ml a day. Your initial order should help you decide what nic strength you want and what kind of flavors you prefer. You’ll also get an idea of how much you use.

Vapor does have a smell, but how it smells depends a lot on the flavor and the particular juice. It is not as persistent as smoke though, so if noticeable, it will probably be pleasant. There are exceptions.

OK
LiteCig has 2 types of liquid, High Caliber and Dekang. HC is pretty good, Dekang is the main chinese supplier. I don't care much for the Dekang, but will work fine.

I would strongly consider getting come cartomizers. I have Boge soft cap. Many people prefer carto's over the atty.cart combo, but many prefer the atty/cart as well. I think the carto's are far easier personally.

Thanks for the replies guys. I'm thinking PCC and usb charger should be my next items of purchase.

OK, I'm guessing this has been answered a billion times, but whats the difference between atty and carts?

Carto's=cartomizer. They have a built in atomizer, they're considered disposable but you can refill them several times. They can last a few day to weeks, you never know.
Atomizer/cart's are separate pieces. The cartridge on a 510 fits into the atty. Atomizers tend to have a much longer lifespan than carto's. They'll last weeks to months, here again, you never know.
One atomizer costs about the same as a box of 5 cartomizers. From my experience those 5 carto's will last about the same as the single atty.
The advantage of carto's is they hold more juice so you can vape longer between refills. The advantage to atty's is you can use a drip tip and forego the cartridge altogether, it's called dripping. There's a big hole in the end of it where you just drip a few drops of juice.
From what I've seen here on ECF, most serious vapers either use carto's or drip. Only a few use cart's. Personally, I drip when at home and use carto's when I'm out'n about.
I hope that answers your question.

You probably have a USB charger with your kit. My ego has USB charger... You may have meant a Passthrough, not sure. The wall charger will have a USB port that you plug the USB port into it - but could use it directly in a USB to charge i would think.

The other option to consider is perhaps buying 1 EGO battery instead. Your 510 charger can charge it - will just take a long time.

Yeah, the cartomizer = atomizer and cartridge in 1 piece. A box of 5 is $8. I like Boge soft cap. I would avoid Bauway as I have seen a lot of bad posts on them lately. I don't think LiteCig sells Bauaway anyhow... but just in case you buy somewhere else...

I am a bit new myself, but I would say go with an eGo pass through. It is only a few $ more ($22-$26 range USD) and it wont take all that extra time to charge. Besides its a pass through.

one of the cheaper places I have found Joye eGo Passthru
I never ordered from them, but several others here have..

If you use cartridges it's probably gonna be a couple of cig's when they're new. After the filler compacts a little bit, they don't seem to last as long. If you use cartomizers you'll get around 4-5 cig's worth on a fill. The problem is that most of us vape more than we used to smoke. The 510 batteries lasted me about 1 or 1 1/2 hours each on a charge. I tended to hit it pretty heavy. I kept one on the charger all the time and sometimes I'd still be left with a dead battery. I got 2 spares and another charger and then it would keep up with me. Now that I've got an eGo it's no problem. One eGo 900mah batt goes for around 12 hours and only take about 2 hours to charge from dead. Of course YMMV.

Here's another opinion, to answer part of your questions:

My 900mAh eGo battery lasts about 9 hours before needing to be recharged, but I take more drags than the average user, I think.

I go through 6mL of liquids each day, but I vape a lot more than I smoked (which was a pack a day).

I've estimated that I take about 100 drags per hour.

One cartomizer (carto) lasts me about an hour. Cartos are cheap, easy to fill and refill, and can be refilled for about two to four weeks, depending on how many cartos you're rotating each day. When vaping, a carto lasts longer than using an atomizer and cartridge or when using just an atomizer and drip tip.

I don't use cartridges (cart) and atomizer (atty) because it's too much of a hassle to fill the inner cart in the cartridge, and sometimes, the juice isn't wicked into the atomizer very good.

I do drip sometimes using just an atomizer and a drip tip by dripping 3 drops into the atomizer every 6 to 10 drags. When receiving a new atomizer, it needs to be cleaned to remove the primer liquid that's inside the atomizer. You can try blowing several times through the bridge/mesh end or soak it in water and/or isopropyl alcohol for a few minutes, blow out the excess water, and allow to dry completely (overnight or use a fan or hair blower). Then drop 6 drops into the atty, blow once or twice lightly, and then drip 3 drops, and vape. If you get a burnt taste, it needs 5 more drops (needs more drops because you waited too long to add the normal 3 drops).

I haven't bought a Joye 510, but I'm sure it's similar to the starter kits I bought (which I quit using in about 10 days when I received my eGo 1000mAh batteries in the mail).

No, vaping doesn't reek. The vapor dissipates into the air quickly, and if there is any lingering smell (which won't be for long), it will smell like whatever flavor you're vaping at the time. I smell nothing when I vape.

OK, so I'm still waiting for my kit (no fault of the supplier I might add). Decided in my boredom to also order another 510 from bestecig (its not a joye, but rather BE510). A few reviews here and there suggest place and item is fairly good.

However, I did see this in the description:

"E-liquid content of each cartridge equals traditional cigarette:18 pcs"

That can't be right, can it? Perhaps a little over the top advertising?

Probably, but they go by the number of drags, and I believe they think that one cigarette equals 10 drags, so they think one cartridge will last for about 180 drags. This could be true, but many people will vape more than they smoked. I could easily take 180 drags (vapes) in about two hours or less, but I sure didn't smoke 18 cigarettes in that length of time.

In my experience a full cart will satisfy me about like 2 analogs did. A full carto maybe like 5 or 6.

so I finally got one of my 510s from bestecig and been vaping for about an hour straight now and loving it. I haven't got my joye 510 yet, so can't compare it, but from my experience so far, it's great. I got peach and red bull flavors, and both are awesome.

I noticed the atty and cart get a little warm? Something to worry about? Should I let it cool down periodically? I have a manual battery.
