My coil is now 5 months old of daily use, why have I not tasted the burn yet?

I find it hard to believe that the "burnt" taste is undetectable, although I guess it takes more time for some than others to grow their tastebuds back. I've occasionally thought a coil was burnt when it wasn't, but never the reverse.

If you are cleaning black gunk off it to continue vaping, though, I'd still suggest swapping out that coil (after a VERY THOROUGH rinse/clean of your tank) and see if your new coil tastes or behaves differently. You can KEEP the old coil, in case it's a magic coil, rather like the fountain of youth, or something. That is a very long time for a drop in coil, you can afford to replace it, I'd think.

Good luck,

Anna

all depends on how much you vape really.. How much liquid are you vaping a day and how much nicotine is in your juice? If you're only taking 10-20 puffs a day I can see that happening but if you're downing 10ml that's pretty much impossibru and I'd recommend swapping the coil.

So many people in this thread want to "fix" what "ain't broke". If it tastes fine and performs fine there is no reason to replace it. If the cleaning he is doing keeps it going, then so be it. As I said before coil age is NOT going to change what is in your vapor (chemically speaking).

I don't think any of us are qualified to say if a 5 month old coil throwing out chunks of black stuff is chemically ok. Personally If i seen black chunks in my tank, I would just change the darn thing and be done with it, especially of just how cheap coils are...a clean tank is a happy tank

Also, seriously, this can't be some magical unicorn coil that loses its infinite vaping potential if removed then reinserted, but it is FAR more likely that the OP (who states they are wiping black gunk off it periodically) may have adjusted to the burnt taste, although I find it difficult to credit that that may be the case but it COULD be the case, I mean who knows.

Also, after 5 months, that coil deserves a break in my opinion. I am not suggesting chucking it even, just removal and thorough cleaning of the tank and a replacement coil to see if it performs any differently..... If not, the magical coil can be reused and/or perhaps this vaper, type of coil, vaping style and equipment and juice lend itself to long coil life, but we are talking about ONE DROP IN COIL. I mean, c'mon. There's being budgetary, and then there is being sensible.

ANYONE that knows anything about chemistry can 100% say that. Chemistry is math and math is constant. If A+B=C today then it will still be that tomorrow, next week, or 100 years from now. You can't put in the same chemicals, apply the same amount of heat today and get different results than you did yesterday. That would be like saying you can put tea leaves in water and if you reheat it enough times it will make gasoline. I'm sorry but you you are going to have tea every single time, even if you use the same pan and don't clean it. The bad taste usually comes from overcooked juice or wick but overcooked spaghetti is still spaghetti. It may taste bad now but it doesn't magically become hexavalent chromium. The build up on the coil (the "black stuff") came out of your juice, it was ALWAYS in there. It may have changed states but it was in there to begin with. Changing the coil will NOT change what chemicals are in your juice nor will it change what chemicals are in the vapor. Chemistry does NOT work that way. The only way to get different results is to change either the chemicals being put into it, OR change the heat applied. Changing the coil does nothing to the equation.

that black gunk is essentially charred sweeteners, I can pretty much guarantee charred sweeteners are chalk full of acetoin/formaldehyde and will leach into the juice, also just because it doesn't taste burnt doesn't mean it's not hindering the flavor in fact I'm absolutely positive the flavor potential is down by like 30.. It costs like a couple bucks a week to swap a coil, even just swapping it twice a month would be much better than his status quo. The wire in the coils can start to lose their protective coating after a while which is also really bad for flavor after about a month builds in my RDA suffer from this so I swap them out..

I wouldn't subject myself to less flavor and possible carcinogens when I can avoid it,

You are missing the point though. Any other chemicals produced (such as acetoin/formaldehyde) are produced when heat is applied. So even if you put in a brand new coil after every single puff, if you start with the same base chemicals and apply the same heat you are going to get the same result, every single time.

Considering the OP seems to have abandoned this thread there isn't any real need to argue the point anymore, so I am out.
