Since so many post about possible or perceived health issues related to vaping. I thought I'd share what my dentist had to say at my last visit. I will state off the bat I have always had weak enamel and prone to cavities and such.

To keep the story short have a couple of cavities and I asked my dentist about my vaping and the possible effects on my teeth. He said that vaping was a better option over smoking if I were going to do one or the other. That smoking can increase certain bacteria as well as staining and such, however said there were a few things to pay attention to with vaping.

He is a vaper as well, which gives me even more reason to heed and pass on his advice.

1. Drink plenty of water
2. Avoid/limit sugar drinks; tea, colas, lemonades, Kool-Aid, etc.
3. Avoid/limit sweets and brush after
4. Use a mouth wash that promotes saliva production and good bacteria example Biotene
5. Limit intake of citrus fruits like lemons and limes

Most of this is normal stuff that many of us already know but thought people might find this interesting. He told me that with vaping and the dryness it can cause, can really amplify the effects of sugars and acids on a person's teeth. Then said that most long time smokers and smokeless tobacco users are already at a higher risk of gum disease and tooth decay anyways. So just stay hydrated, eat right, brush and floss and there is to him little to no damaged caused by vaping.

Now I never thought vaping was causing any dental problems but with all I keep seeing posted about it "causing this and that" figured it'd be nice to share some good news. I did ask him, cause I have had a few people tell me they have more noticeable bad breath since vaping. He said they need to see a dentist if it's been awhile just to get a check up to make sure nothing is wrong. Then said it could be from not hydrating, as dry mouth can cause bad breath. Then said the biggest thing is, it is probably not any worse than it was before vaping. Stated that since our sense of smell comes back better after not smoking, people are probably just realizing what others have known for years and laughed.

The last part of your post is hilarious and ironic, as I have noticed some people don't smell as good as I thought they did before I quit smoking.

My dental hygeninst always would yell at me saying my smoking was undoing all the good she did, now that I vape, she tells me she can finally make some progress.

My dentist in Mexico got me started on vaping, immediately after the extraction of two molars. Hot smoke from an analog after an extraction is a great incentive to quit tobacco, the pain is intense, like a hot poker or an electric shock ...

I had chronic gingivitis all of my adult life. After 29 months of vaping exclusively, no more bleeding when brushing, and the gums have responded well to several new crowns ...

I converted one of the dental assistants who smoked, she is tobacco-free for over a year now ... :D

Great post Paper, my dentist had a similar reaction to me starting to vape. His biggest caution was the possibility of dehydration, but when he examined me and saw improvement in my gums and overall oral health he told me to keep doing it because it was obviously not impacting my mouth like smoking was. My physician is equally impressed with the progress in my respiratory system, win win.

Ya, the regular doctor is next. Mine does not know about my switch to vaping yet. Can't wait to get the chest X-ray that I put off the last time I went over a year ago.

I'm sure the strongest smell coming out of a smoker's mouth is tobacco/ash, it probably masked everything else. One you remove the smoke, everything else remains.

My dentist has been urging me for years to try vaping instead of smoking, she claimed her best friend quite smoking with cigalikes. My chiropractor was interested in knowing more about vaping, and he was impressed that I had been off smoking for a few months through vaping.

I managed to procrastinate a chest x-ray for 18 yrs, but recently when I was ill, my doctor insisted -- the results showed "no change" from the x-ray 18 yrs ago. :D I commented that that was pretty sweet, considering I just quit smoking 15 months ago. :D

Stopped analogs 5/15/2014. After my first dental cleaning the hygienist said my gums looked much better. After 40 years of analogs I was fortunate they were not too bad to begin with. I always flossed well and brushed 2x daily. Some spots did have too deep of a pocket. I returned about a month ago and the hygienist was literally astonished at the improvement in my gums. She was blown away actually. She have me 10 gold stars. She was also very happy at having to do so much less work on my teeth. I was overwhelmed and proud. That's been my experience. I hope everyone else's is exactly the same.
