I just thought i would give some new members my experience with the 510 attomizers,

i have been vaping since January and i havent had a regular cigarette since. but its been a bit of a learning curve. i have tried many mods and combos, i settled on the 510 with the mega battery. i have two of the PT but never use them, need them. i have 3 mega batteries and two chargers. i only use one cart and atomizer at a time and stick with one flavor. (i found its just easier) i use to vape all different flavors during the day, after 6 months i find that all i need is the satisfaction of smoking and once i settled on a flavor i will stick to it until it runs out, i will then use what ever other flavor i have on had until that is gone. i have 20 or 30 bottles of juice so im set for a while. (mostly 5ml samples though)

anyway, the reason for this post is the atomizer i found is actually something that needs to be replaced once a month or so. it will start to have reduced output and TH after its used for a while.

i will use one atty exclusively until its wore out then use a new one. ( have a box of them)

you can tell if your atty is wearing out of you notice its getting hot more often, i found that it will get hot because it's actually flooded or really full. what actually gets wore out is the atty wick.

i have worked out that what happens is when new the wick will soak up a bit of the juice from the cart and draw juice as needed but after a time the wick will start drawing too much from the cart causing the atty to flood and i will have to remove the cart and direct draw on the atty to clear some out.

i get one month as i said from a new atty.

so if you are getting inconsistent function from your 510 then replace the atty, or if you notice the atty getting hotter than normal.

cleaning it will not totally fix it, as a matter of fact i dont even clean them any more after all my trail and error i found it makes no difference.

Note: you must have the correct amount of filler in the cart or you will get inconsistent results too. i resorted back to the polyfill (stock filler) if its too dense it will only work for a little while and need to be tapped or let sit so the juice can saturate the wick again. if its too loose it will flood the atty and wick.

sorry, this post got longer than i wanted but i have really struggled to get something that is no fus and lasts for the most part all day.

two full mega batteries and once cart with a bottle of juice in my pocket lasts me all day, i use to smoke a pack a day.

i fill the cart 3 times a day or so depending on if its a work day or weekend. ive gotten to the point where i can fill the cart in just a few seconds, if im driving ill do it at a stop sign/light and off i go.

i leave a little of the filler sticking out and fold it over so its between the atty and the cart so i can grab it with my fingers easier.

i hope this is helpful to others. again sorry its so long.

Thanks for that.. i actually have cleaned them quite a few times and it helps BUT they are never the same as when new. the wick and mesh while clean will still degrade over time causing improper 'wicking' making TH and vapor inconsistent at best. sure you can limp along with them but why? they are cheap and a new atomizer will blow you away compared to a heavily used one.. just my experience.

I've been reading over a few threads today and from everything I can tell, 510s seem like they're a lot of trouble.

I use the Joye 510 (manual) from awesomevapor and the one I'm using right now is about 6 months old (+ a few weeks). It does get a little warm more quickly than it did when it was new, but not so much so that it's inconvenient. I just ordered a new kit so when these two finally give up I'll have another on standby.

I've never had to clean, prime, replace parts or do anything besides add liquid and charge the battery to keep it going.

So, my question is, why do people go with e-cigs that take so much more work? What's the benefit of the 510? Do they do something special or come with something that makes them more fun or convenient to use?

I just realized that when you say 510, you may be talking about the Joye 510. Is that the case? If it is, I have no idea why you would have to do so much with yours and I've never had to do any of that with mine - unless maybe it's just the quality of where you buy them from...

i do mean the joye 510.

this is a tough one to explain. its one of those things that happen over time so that its hard to notice. all i can say is trust me, if you place a new atty on your 510 with all other things being the same you will notice a major difference. assuming the existing one is heavily used. i used the same 3 attys i bought in Jan for 3 months, i would clean them etc and they DID work but nothing like a new one and not nearly as consistent..

with a new atty i get soooo much vapor that i literally can not see through it and the TH is too much if i hit it the same as i have to with a heavily used atty.

you'd be surprised..

I see what you're saying. I may be surprised when I get my new kit in a few days. I didn't realize you were supposed to clean the atomizers - I never have. I assumed getting them wet (beyond the bit a juice it takes in at a time) was a bad thing. But since I've never had a problem with mine, I've never tried to figure out how to fix anything. Can you tell me what TH stands for?

I'll email Arno and see if he's already sent out my order. If not I'll get him to add an extra atomizer.

Thanks for the information!

The 510 is the Joye 510. The non Joye 510's usually are referred as fakes.

And 6 months on an atty is beyond GOOD...it's GREAT. No 510 atty (Joye's of course) of mine will last that long. When they start losing their performance beyond my skills to make them function like i want...i give them a last day of glory: i vape them at 6 volts and they die honorably.

Did you ever do a dry burn?

Most people will tell you, including me, that a dry burn will make them like new again.
I think my atomizer might just last forever at this point.

All the info is really interesting. I've spent and handful of hours over the past few days looking through this forum and there is a lot I didn't know about ecigs.

I haven't really looked around for information since I haven't have any problems to google solutions for, so I got my kit, put everything together and started using. I'm the only person I know who vapes (other than the friends I've turned onto it) and I didn't realize there was a whole active community to learn from.

It's GREAT to know that I can just replace atomizers. Does that mean that batteries don't usually decline in how long they hold a charge?

I've really like to figure out how/why this first set has been so great for me. I carry one of the two around with me all the time - in my car, around work, everywhere. I vape in staff meetings, at my desk (especially there), when I'm out to eat, etc.. I don't vape lightly - though I don't use it as often now as I did when I first started vaping - then I never, ever put it down. I use menthol juice and I top it off when it gets that 'filter' taste, unless I'm busy or not right at my eliquid. Then I still use it and top off when I can. I charge when the battery dies, though sometimes I take it off the charger before it's completely done. I'm not all that patient. I use the two I have interchangeably so the wear-n-tear should be about the same on both. I always keep them put together, I see that there are cases that store the pieces, but I just have a little zip up pouch I keep them in with a bottle of juice in my purse. The cap on the top (that covers the light) is missing on one of the because a couple of months back I was pulling it out of my pocket when driving and it caught on something and I couldn't find it. Probably vacuumed it up since then.

I've never blown it (or noticed a funny taste that made be think I needed to) and I've never cleaned the atomizer. (Though once my cat knocked it off the counter into his water bowl - I let it dry out and it's been fine).

I get that with a new atomizer I'll probably get a much bigger hit, but right now I exhale at least as much 'mist'? as I ever exhaled smoke when smoking. So, what's going on? What would cleaning the atomizer have done? Would it do anything now that it's six months old? Maybe keep it from getting warm? Is the atomizer the only part of this that should have worn out by now? Is there anything I can do to make sure my next e-cig lasts as long/does as well as these two? By not 'blowing it' did I inhale something I shouldn't have?

This site as given me tons of questions - and I didn't even know anything was wrong! :p

Thanks for taking the time to teach!

I wish I was like you. I have too much money wrapped up in this "hobby". If your atty's are still satisfying to you, then don't worry about blowing, cleaning them. I have to have a good strong TH, so I keep mine cleaned out. By the way, I see you are in Raleigh. I am in Wake Forest. You might want to try MadVapes some time. He is in Charlotte and usually gets my orders to me in 1 to 2 days.

I haven't lost a regular Joye 510 atty in a year (will be on the 18th). I've killed three of them - two on a 5 volt device and one from a dry burn gone wrong. I used to clean them the first 3 months -vodka soak- and still do if there's a drop in performance but I've found that using them on a true 3.7 peak volt device - Bartleby, Protege, cleans them as you vape - a 'wet burn'. I rarely clean any now. If one on a mega is not performing I'll put it on the Bartleby to 'clean' it. Then back to the mega and all is well.

Lost some LR attys but that's a different story.

Wow - we're not far apart at all - I'm in Brier Creek. :)

I read something about madvapes earlier today. AwesomeVapor has been really great to me though and I always get things I order really quickly. And since the last kit they sold me worked so well - well, don't fix what's not broken, know what I mean?

Question for you about the hit - Do you look for more vapor and a stronger hit in your pv than you did in your cigarette when you smoked? I'm wondering if vaping conditions you to need more than a cigarette can give. That would be a really interesting emotional effect.
