Let's start with the e-cig that ushered me into the world of vaping. A month ago, I bought an RN4072 pen-style e-cig from a local vendor. I was apprehensive at first, considering I ran into the Addison Atomizer e-cig and regretted it immediately. Well, I found a local vendor that sells Ruyan e-cigs, and very good liquid. Cost me a $99 and came with 2 batteries, 2 atomizers, a charger, and a 15mL bottle of liquid. I judged these 2 based on performance (vape, throat hit, battery life, etc), style, and durability.
RN4072 Pen-Style
Performance: 7/10
Style: 8/10
Durability: 9/10
The Good
The Bad
The Ugly
Conclusion
The RN4072 is a great starter e-cig, and I use it at work daily. It's durable enough to handle abuse, and is a low enough profile to put anywhere.
Now, on to the DSE-905 Screwdriver. I bought it online from Vapordogs for $54.95 with free shipping. Comes with 2 batteries, 2 901 attys, a charger, and 5 prefilled carts. Their liquid was mediocre, but it held me over until my awesome liquid arrived from FreedomeSmokeUSA.

Performance: 8/10
Style: 9/10
Durability: 7/10
The Good
The Bad
The Ugly
Conclusion
The DSE-905 is a solid performer, with amazing aesthetics and ergonomics. It makes for an amazing "lounge" vape, as opposed to the pen-style's more serious approach to vaping. I kick back, watch some TV or listen to some music, cradle the Screwdriver and let the clouds of vapor flow forth.
RN4072 Pen-Style
Performance: 7/10
Style: 8/10
Durability: 9/10
The Good
- It's an automatic battery, so it vapes the second I take a drag.
- Battery life is good, even with chain-vaping.
- The vapor is nice and thick, cloudy, and the throat-hit is great.
- The build quality is excellent. I keep it in my pocket at work, snug against a walky-talky and it still looks new. It has also survived many drops onto concrete, and I've sat on it a few times.
- It's light enough that I can dangle it from my teeth with no discomfort (while using the soft tips).
The Bad
- Vaping is only excellent on the first few drags, then the power from the battery drops a little.
- The cutoff is a bit short. It starts blinking at me after only 5 seconds, so I have to take shorter puffs per mouthful.
- The price was a bit high, but it's not as pricey as some lesser quality e-cigs I've seen online.
The Ugly
- Leaking from the vent holes gets annoying. It's a waste of liquid. This occurs regardless of the amount of liquid being held in the cartridge at any given time.
- One of my atomizers stopped performing well (50% performance drop) after only 3 weeks.
Conclusion
The RN4072 is a great starter e-cig, and I use it at work daily. It's durable enough to handle abuse, and is a low enough profile to put anywhere.

DSE-905 "Screwdriver" (no button on the bottom)
Performance: 8/10
Style: 9/10
Durability: 7/10
The Good
- The style is awesome. I love the larger body and the blue light ring at the base of the atty where it connects to the battery. It's definitely a head-turner.
- Vaping is great, with clouds of vapor and great flavor from my liquids. The flavors are more pronounced with this unit.
- Long cutoff time. The unit doesn't start flashing at me until 10 seconds of holding the button down, so I rarely hit that cutoff time.
- The ergonomics are perfect for me. It's comfortable to hold and vape with.
- Battery life is awesome. With a larger battery (originally used in "grandpa pipe" e-cigs), it lasts all day.
The Bad
- The carts need refilling a lot more often than I expected. This isn't really bad and I don't actually hold this against the DSE-905, but it's worth noting.
- The weight and size makes is more difficult to carry it in my pocket while at work. I leave it home, which again, isn't necessarily bad because I wanted it for at-home, relaxed vaping, but again, worth noting.
- Every so often, nothing happens when I press the button. This is easily corrected by simply pressing the button again to activate it, but it makes me wonder how well it's constructed.
- Speaking of construction, there is quite a bit of plastic inside, and it looks as though the atty female attachment on the main body is held in place by a ring of plastic. I worry that it wouldn't handle the drops onto cement that my pen-style goes through.
The Ugly
- The sheer weight of the device makes it practically impossible to hold between my teeth. Right now, as I'm typing, I'm vaping on my pen-style because I can't dangle the DES-905 in my mouth.
- It leaks much worse than the RN4072 does, but then again, the cart is shaped slightly different. But still, it's annoying having to clean up after a leaky atty.
