my first DIY

So I thought I'd give it a try.

1st batch - tobacco.

Wanted to make 3ml of 25mg tobacco to start with.
Using Scubatadan's calculator I mixed 1.5ml of 50mg VG (Xtremevaping.com) with 1.05 mg of plain VG. Very thick stuff. I have no Alcohol for a reducer so I mixed it as best I could (wasnt easy considering the quanity and the consistancy).
I added about 12-13 drops of Tobacco Absolute (perfumer's apprentice) and tried to mix. Didnt mix very well. All 3 ingredients were very thick but I mixed as well as I could, let it sit for 5 min and mixed again.
Dropped 1.5 drops direct on my 510 atty and with a blank cartridge I started vaping.
The vapor production was awesome as I expected but the taste wasnt so good. Tasted just like it smelled. Not really what I was expecting...but it was definately tobacco. Not overpowering or disgusting, just not the tobacco flavor I was looking for.

2nd batch - 555

Learning from the 1st time I decided to make a larger batch as to make it easier to mix. I doubled the recipe to make 6ml of 25mg 555. Again I used the ejuice calculator and mixed 3ml of 50mg VG and 2.10 of plain VG. I used a 6ml glass dropper bottle and this quanitiy was easier to mix.
- on a side note, I noticed that my VG seems to mix better in a glass bottle than in a plastic one, anyone know why that is?
I added 30 drops of 555 flavoring (liquidexpress) and mixed it but putting a cap on the bottle and tipping it upside down and rightside up for about 2 minutes. - shaking doesnt seem to do much when the mixture is this thick.
put 2 drops direct on my atty and started to vape. Again, vapor production was great but this time, very little to no flavor. I added 10 more drops of 555 flavoring, still no flavor in vapor. I dunno, this 555 flavoring I got is clear and it doesnt smell. It seems like its just straight PG.

3rd batch - Caramel.

I was a little dissapointed in my 6ml of 555 that tasted like nothing so I dropped about 10 drops of caramel (perfumers apprentice) into my failed 555. WOW!!! My taste buds still work as this caramel tastes awesome!
Great vapor and excellent flavor. Very happy with that.

SO I think Im done for today. I will enjoy my caramel for awhile until my seedmans flavors come in and I will let everyone know how that goes.

So, around 7 to 8 % for the PA flavors. Good to know as I ordered some this weekend.

I've had trouble with the FA tobacco flavors myself. There seems to be a very fine line between too little & too much. Going to try at 10ml to give myself more leeway next.

Experimenting is the only way to get it. I have failed miserably twice as often as I hit a great mix and about an equal number of so-so's. Usually I go 0nic while experimenting & if it works the flavor has to be adjusted again for the nic.

Going with the caution of less that 1% makes them too weak. e.g 1 drop/5-6ml. 6% or 8 drops/6ml is pretty much there. Good flavour and good TH (9)

Are you adding distilled water to dilute that VG? Seems like it's going to be way too thick to properly vape, not to mention mix. That Tobacco Absolute is very difficult to mix from what I hear, you might want to let it sit for a day or more, the taste will probably change. I think glass surface provides much lower friction for the liquid to move around across than plastic surfaces, that may be why it mixes better in glass.
I have some of that Caramel, I'm going to have to try it at that strength. What size bottle of Caramel did you get? I noticed the little droppers on the 4ml bottles produce tiny drops that are probably only 0.03ml or so.

The trick to mixing the TA is first get a pipette, then heat the TA in a cup of hot water, makes it very thin. The use the pipette to drop two drops into 10ml of PGA, if you use PG, just shake while running under hot water it mixes fine.

That's overdoses, I should say, and very very much so. If I haven't miscalculated, my TA liquid contains 0.05% of TA itself, and it's not exactly a weak flavour.

It sounds like you didnt make the prediluted right and added way too much to you juice probably tasted like an ashtray

Pure Vapor - I got the 15ml. The droppers are very small so you are probably right. All I know is what I made tastes great... reminds me a little of maple syrup tho.

I gotta get some PGA. Where the heck do the stores keep distilled water now? I was looking all over for it at WalMart.

I will try your method, Scubabatdan, for thinning out my TA.

I picked up some seedmans commercial as well. I plan to try mixing some of that as well.

I was really bummed about the 555 although Rob from Liquidxpress assured me it was flavoring. I really like 555 as it is my favorite vape flavor. I hope to make a good 555-tobacco-almond/caramel flavor..hopefully they mix well.

Dan, have you tried this? or is this just off the top of your head? I have all of the ingredients except for the Almond and Im just dying for some good 555. I've tried Nhaler's, Dekang, and DIYFS and I love them all. Tastes kinda nutty, you think I need peanut butter too?

MAN THAT TA IS POWERFUL STUFF.

Made 8ml of 25mg VG unflavored. Mixed 30 drops of seedmans commercial and it didnt have too much taste so I droped 2 drops of TA into the vial and now ALL I taste is TA. I then added 30 drops of 555 flavoring- which didnt do anything except thin it out a little. I added another 30 drops of dekang 24mg almond and I still couldnt taste anything but the TA.

Back to the drawing board.

-oh, TA is good just a little strong.

Did you dilute the TA first as your supposed to or used it straight?

TA is supposed to be diluted 1 drop in 5ml PG. Then from there 1 drop/3mls of juice.

I have a fairly strong TA liquid - and that contains 5 permille, or 0.5% of TA.

ok tried again.

mixed 5ml of 50mgVG with 2.5ml of straightVG. I added 1ml of PGA/DW (50/50 mix) then added 17 drops of PA caramel and 25 drops of diluted TA/Seedmans commercial tobacco mix.

Caramel stands out, cant taste the tobacco much at all. No throat hit either. Any ideas on what to add to this 10ml concoction to add more tobacco and throat hit without ruining what I already have?

I know this is not helping you much right now, but that's the reason I prefer flavours which are added in the one-digit percent range. Much easier to add more flavour without watering them down.
How about some real TA flavour? You can make that one very strong.
