Like the title says, I just did my first full rebuild on my Atlantis head ( Coil and all ) . I used 24 gauge kanthal and did 9 wraps on a 1.8mm screwdriver.

One question though, what could be causing me to get a slightly harsh throat hit? I am using the same strength nicotine that I always use (6mg). Keep in mind, I am using the same juice that I was on the stock coil. and yes, I put the mesh spitback guard back on.

Other than that, I have it on a Vaporshark Rdna, so I can't tell the the EXACT resistance, but it is reading 0.7 ohms.

Overall, I am pleased, and it was EXTREMELY simple rebuild. just can't figure out the weird throat hit.

Is the new coil slightly bigger than the stock?
Could be the surface area is vaporizing more juice at once, just at a slower pace.

Nicely done, by the way!

I wish I understood what this means.

"More at once"=faster rate, so you are in essence saying "Could be the surface area is vaporizing more juice faster, just slower."

???

lol you guys crack me up. Also, I just took apart one of the stock heads that I had ran 4 tanks through.. I was scared to see what the coil and the ceramic paper looked like. To my surprise there was no burning and the coil was super clean. I have to ask. For those of you that were experiencing the ceramic paper burning and flaking away, what kind of juice and mod were you using? I vaped that coil any where between 20-30 watts and with juices that ranged from 50% vg to 85% vg, and for my coil and the paper to be this clean confuses me. Are you all chain vaping at like 50 watts or something? lol

I think Aspire put out a statement that the filler was uh....fiberglass. I destroy mine with a mere 5mls of Wakonda at below 20watts...Mostly at 15 watts. Clearer thinner juice works better. There are a bunch of threads on this very topic.

I would suggest shell out the money for new coils or if you are going to do anything to them just rewick the coils themselves are fine. Like nothing wrong with them and if you rewick prob can get like 2 or so months out of a coil. Its made from tack welding non resistance wire to resistance wire so the coil only heats up where the resistance wire is.

1. Neat! Not everything will always work optimally, but blessed are the tinkerers for it is they who provide the negative results. :)

2. Is your cotton twisted? Cotton isn't the best wicking material in the world -- if it isn't burning, it may be that it's a bit constricted. Playing with the amount of cotton and how tightly (if it at all) it's twisted would be where I'd start. Does lowering the wattage change anything?

Good job.

I have never rebuilt a coil before but might try it with an Atlantis coil also. Not that i will do this, but what would happen if the coil leads/legs were not placed properly. Like having both in or both out after putting the rubber back in vs one in and one out?? Will the coil just not fire, or it could cause damage to the battery etc?

If the coils are too tight or even touching , what kind of problems can arise when you pulse it ??

Thanks

What in the world kind of voltage is the stock coil running at 11 watts?

Pretty low.
I don't use my Atlantis much. Almost exclusively because of the coils, but since I like my dripper much more for cloud production I shelved it pretty quick. I don't sub ohm in public, so I use other tanks when I'm out.

Everything seems to be broken in now, and is working amazing. No harsh throat hits. It takes a while to heat up when lower than 23 watts, so I have been vaping this rebuild at around 24-30 watts, and I am loving it.

As for people saying to only do a vertical coil, I beg to differ. Now that I have this thing broken in, it is working better than the stock vertical coil. I know a lot of things are subjective, but all I can say is damn. lol
