Hey all, it's been a while since I posted to the forum but I'm excited about something and wanted to tell some people who might appreciate it.
I have a bunch of old heads for my Kanger Mini-Protank 3s laying around so I decided I'd try to rebuild a few of them this week. So I picked up some 26 AWG kanthal wire from a local vape shop, it was the thinnest gauge that they carry. At first I thought I'd try to shoot for the 1.5 - 2 ohm range to sort of replicate what I was getting from the stock heads, but with 26 AWG it takes something like 12 to 15 wraps to get that, the coil was too long to fit in the head. It was a struggle at first, but what I ended up with was 8 wraps (around a 1.5 mm hex key) for about 1 ohm. Got that crammed into the head oriented vertically, mainly because that's how it fit best but I've heard that you can get better flavor with the vertical orientation anyway. Wicked around the coil with organic cotton and put the head back together.
Now this hit alright on my MVP 2 but that device is so regulated that I didn't feel like I was getting the most out of that 1 ohm coil. So I went back to the vape shop and talked to the folks there about it, and ended up trying an Aspire CF Sub-Ohm battery. And I ended up with the best vape I've ever had. I'm not a cloud chaser, and the clouds that the folks at the vape shop were throwing out with their RBAs still put mine to shame, but I'm getting a satisfying hit and great flavor. So I ended up buying one of those batteries.
Another thing I like about that shop is they do custom juice mixes, right now I'm vaping a mix of Coumarin pipe tobacco and vanilla custard, and I think this could be an all-day vape. So right now I've got what for me is a great setup along with some tasty juice, and I'm happily vaping away.
