my first tank mod

It's not pretty (you can't tell by the pic), and I think I should have used something other than rubber stoppers from home depot. The stink of the rubber is very strong. Hopefully it fades over time and it's not something that will taint my juice and become unhealthy to inhale. Anyway, here's my pic, video to come later

I would worry about the rubber on your juice Mike.
My first end cap was the Danco faucet washer with a rubber washer glued to the top for easy removal. Although my rubber washer did not touch the juice, the stink was unpleasant. So......... I chucked it.

Yup. I did that last night actually. I searched all over for a syringe replacement, thinking it was going to be hard to acquire them. Then I found out that my local tractor supply has them for $1.29 a piece for 20 ml syringes and $0.29 for the 3 ml (for the plunger for the side fill hole). No prescription needed and no feeling weird for asking for syringes from a vet. They're not as strong as the coin tubes, but I'll be happy enough with that since there's no stink

I don't see a need to post pictures, if you've seen a syringe mod (or BillB OKC's mod with the side fill hole), you've seen mine. Looks just like theirs (except theirs are probably prettier).

Ok, I went ahead and took a pic of it on my old nasty battery. Been using it since about 8 pm last night, still going on the tank I filled up then. Used about 2 mls so far (with this, I can use the marks on the syringe to track my usage too lol)

The first one was huge and ugly and tasted like crap. I finally found easy access to syringes and will never look back.

i also used a rubber stopper and finally had to just get rid of it and chalk it up to experience. The taste didn't go away, I washed and cleaned the rubber stopper to no avail.

Yup, it just wasn't worth it. It also made me wonder what I might have been inhaling that whole time too.

So right, about it being not worth it. I wanted so much for the rubber stoppers to work because I had access to as many as I wanted and at first I thought I hit the jackpot. Yipeee! Turned out to be quite the opposite. Funny how things in life turn take those turns sometimes.

Yeah i bought rubber grommets and they stunk like rubber as well i did not use them, google or ebay vinyl grommets.

See if you can find the same thing in Vinyl it should not leave a taste.

Nice one, and thanks for the info-I was just about to start my first tank mod, looks like I'll have to rethink a couple of things, like the rubber grommets; I'd actually prefer to use the syringe plunger cap, but how did you make the hole for the carto?

If you haven't already I just use an old carto and sharpen up the open end a bit with a file then use a small hammer to open up the existing hole a bit. It worked great for me.
