What should I get?

  • Original Screwdriver. Can't beat the original!

  • Screwdriver MK II. That button-cap is a must!

  • eGo/Tornado. You've already got 510 stuff!

  • Something COMPLETELY different!

Is the screwdriver a better performer than the 510? or is the performance roughly the same?

Remember the "510" is just the name of an atomiser - there are lots of "batteries" you can screw on the end of it! The eGo is a 510 battery device and Screwdriver is also available to work the 510. Either will give better performance than a regular 510 battery, the Screwdriver will go longer between charges than the eGo. The Screwdriver also has the advantage of 18 months of reliable track record...

Since you've already got 510 stuff, I'd go for the TorneGo. I'm sure both screwdrivers are great and I do plan on getting the mkII, but I advise you based only on the fact that you already have and are used to a 510. If you work 8 hour days, the TorneGo will suit you just fine. If you pull shifts longer then 8 hours and don't want to carry around an extra battery, go for one of the screwdrivers or an even bigger battery mod.

I've got the TorneGo and the SD MkII.

I'd like the TorneGo better if I was a 510 fan, which I am not. But, the battery life is great and for some reason I do like the 510 atty better with it than I do with the XL 510 batteries. I really like the TorneGo syling, and the fact that the LED is incorporated in the power switch rather than having a silly end tip LED.

I'd like the Screw Driver better if there was a less expensive solution to a power switch problem which surfaced on day one. I lost the spring which is supposed to push the switch away from the ON position. Have to be really cautious as a result. Several times I've set the device down and come back moments later to see vapor production in progress unattended. I even destroyed several of the 901's tips via overheating (they melted). But, I prefer the 901 over the 510, so this gives the Screwdriver an edge over the TorneGo, for me. Eventually, I'll replace the switch. Just wish I didn't have to pay $7 + S/H for the darned spring. At least they ARE available individually now. They used to only be available in lots of five.

I added the SD spare parts kit at the time of purchase. It has three extra batteries and five extra attys. If I'd designed the kit, I'd have replaced one or two of the atty's with spare switch modules.

Conclusion: I have a hard time saying which I like better. Could be the SD, after I replace the switch. But, I'm torn.

Where could I get these button covers you speak of, Jolly? I got the Screwdriver with free extra body. Love it!!!

Hmm MKI SD in 510. The MKI is smaller then the MKII in weight and size because of the battery. I have a MKII and a 2 MKI's and have used the Tornado. To me it's about how much batteries are going to cost me to replace and how reliable are the switches. The MKI is solid. So is the MKII, but 901 connector only, I had to add an adapter to use the 510, and the MKII starts getting big/long in comparison IMO. Sure MKI doesn't come with a button cover, BUT right now, Trog is offering a full kit and 1st 50 buyers get an extra body. It includes the lanyards and the carry pouch. I thought of getting it, just so I can get a gold one! There are button caps available that will fit also (just not for sale by them)

Just go the the grocery store. :)

Mine is the cap from a liquid "I Can't Believe it's not Butter" bottle (bought just for my SD :D). There's all kinds of products with this same size cap. I put two little holes in it with a heated big paper clip, and attached to the lanyard.

Well my advice would be this...

If you can afford a mod like the SD, Provape, or any of the like, go for those.

Reason:
1. Most mods have exchangeable caps so you can use any atty, most include an adaption for 510 stuff... but then you can use 901, 801, so on and so forth...

2. Mods have replaceable batteries... they go dead you are not totally up that river with no paddle... you simply replace with a new battery.

3. Quality... Most mods are made from significantly higher grade materials, and often carry a much longer warranty then your assembly line high cost oneoff's

I for one looked at the SD and the PV1... I decided to get the PV1 with all the accessories, and when their high voltage caps come out, ill get those too.

I had 4 of 5 eGo batteries go bad on me, I do have a warranty, and they were replaced, but I would have rather been able to order a replacement battery for around 10 bucks and have it fast to replace the defective battery, and still be able to use my PV vs. ship the cascading failure model back and wait for the replacement to come in... which was a while... Stock/availability you know the drill.

In the end it is your call based on cost and all that, but if you were looking at a stock vs. a mod, I would say go mod all the way!

And happy vaping.

as an old school screwdriver user ..yeah it was great when it first came out..just because there was nothing else like it. I have an ego/tornado and that outperforms the screwdriver runtimes, it's smaller and it charges faster ( on the usb charger).
I've had my tornado now since they first came out and I'm still using the two original batteries I got with it and they are still lasting 6-7 hours of heavy abuse. even new screwdriver batteries never lasted me that long between charges.

ego/tornado fo sho.
