My Reo Grand is now ......ed

I have made my Reo Grand ......ed. I had a magnet come loose from the door. I thought that I could fix it without any second thought as to how it could be fixed in a way that would render my reo ......ed.

I applied some super glue to the door and added the magnet to the super glue. At this point I felt pretty smug and proceeded to ponder how crafty I am. I then thanked the lord for making me smart enough to fix a simple problem. Then I thought how quickly it took me to realize my problem with the disengaged magnet to the point of fixing it. I was feeling quite smug...

...ten minutes passed and the the super glue was dry. I slipped the door into my reo grand without any resistance and I felt pretty smug. I had completed a mechanical task that would have baffled simple mortals.

Something was wrong...it didn't have the click it once did. I slid the door up and down. It felt slippery.

I am a simple man, a dullard or dolt. After a very long time that could only be explained by a man with a very simple intellect, I realized that I had super glued the magnet backwards...

I had ......ed/hindered the ability of the door to stay stationary.

I've done some googling and it seems that acetone will free the magnet from its position. I also understand that acetone is pretty awesome at removing color.

What should I do? How may I restore my reo to it's previous state?

You are not the first person to do this. I haven't - no really - I haven't, but there've been reports here of others that have. I thought they may have used nail polish remover to loosen the super glue, BUT I'm not sure. Hang in there, someone who knows will be along to give you some pointers.

LOL that is so right up my alley. There is nothing like sitting back with a good vape marveling at good works, is there? I love it. I can't count how many times I've done stuff like that. Maybe Robert can help.

If you have tried everything mentioned on the thread and still no go, then it seems to be a last resort.

Of course you could call or send it to Robert.

if you find the magnet you glued is to hard to remove i guess you could just try to flip the magnet it attaches to instead?

If its anodized you can try acetone . You can try heating the magnet up with a soldering iron . The simplest thing would be to ask Rob for a new door I am sure I can find one for you

I have done it too! Twice! Don't ask me how...Acetone and persistence of knocking the magnet portion of the door against a block of wood and it will come out.

I'll take it one step further.

One of the door magnets came loose before my very first vape. I was looking all over for it (like I would actually find it in the carpet). Luckily, it had stuck itself to the bottom of the battery when I slide the door up for the first time. Simple fix, right? I put a small dab of super glue where the magnet sits and dropped it down in its new home. It didn't seat completely flush with the door, so without even blinking, I applied a little pressure with my thumb. You guessed it---my thumb is now part of the door. Great, I'm thinking to myself.

Apparently, I had a little too much super glue in the hole and the pressure I applied just oozed the excess out and onto my thumb. Realizing my bone head move I quickly pulled my thumb off, leaving behind a layer of skin and also lifting the magnet slightly back out of the hole. As I sit a stare in disbelief, I grab some tools and try to pry the magnet the rest of the way out. I get one "do-over", right? Wrong! The super glue has now set up and I'm looking at a new door with a magnet half way sticking out and a layer of skin all over the back. I think to myself "Wow, that didn't go as expected."

All is well for now though. I took the Dremel to the magnet and flushed it with the back of the door and it works. I have a couple more magnets on order and will make sure I take a little more time on my next attempt.

LOL that sounds like something I would do. I guess if I ever loose a magnet I will be very careful and make sure it is the correct side facing out! My Reo is only 3 wks old and still a baby but I guess it could happen!

DW has a red anodized Grand like that but ALL of the magnets are reversed so it only works with one black door. She can not swap doors on it. I have been meaning to look up info on how difficult it is to fix it for her. i feel for ya

This bunch is so great. Take Rob up on his offer. Fingernail polisher remover is acetone (gasp). It will work, it might take take repeated applications though. We have all done this type of thing.

Also kerosene, anything I've ever spilled that on got removed. Especially adhesives. Lost a few vinyl kitchen tiles that way.
