I have been vaping for about 2 months and I have had major success converting everyone I know who smoked but my step dad. He was told by some idiot that the idiots friends Aunts brothers sister in law or sum such started vaping and was dead in 3 months. Said person was supposed to have been in their 50s and doing well health wise before their untimly death that must have been due to vaping because B4 the vaping said person was just fine. This is so irritating to me and no matter what I say he will not even take a puff to try my PV. He smokes up to 4 packs a day of Pal Mal non filters and I know that you are thinking that there can't be enough hours in the day to smoke 4 packs but my mom kept track while adding up the cost for a month and he smokes up to 4 packs a day. He is in his 50s and does not breath well at all.My aunt(his sister just died of C O P D a few yrs back and she was close in age to him. I try and tell him how much better I feel since I started vaping but nothing helps.I can see that he is afraid. What man does not understand man fears and what man fears man destroys. I read this on a save the pit bulls video and it is sooooo true. They don't understand e cigs so they must be bad right???......

I would leave the simplest hard hitting combination you can find in his house with a 24mg juice that tastes good or is tobacco flavored. If he smokes menthol then menthol. Leave it somewhere you know he will find it but can use in private where others cant see (bathroom?).

Something as simple as a LR stardust with a KGO batt might work, it worked for my father in law who smoked over a PAD for 50+ years and is now down to 3-4 a day. I just kept leaving it in obvious places for him to "Find" and after a while he tried it and keeps using it along with all the other things I have bought for him now in my crusade to buy him a combo that is completely fiddle free and easy to use.

I find there is a lot of resistance out there! People think that if you vape, you can no longer smoke, maybe that is his problem? You would think that having his sister die of copd would make him want to take a look at how much he smokes. I definitely agree with not pushing it on him. Maybe if you get stuck somewhere that he can't smoke, he might try it... take him to a long movie, get an empty cup and stealth vape. Exhale into the cup and no one will know! Good Luck!

Ill just say this: My dad, who got stage 4 small cell lung cancer and COPD from smoking, had to switch to an e cigarette. Hes still alive, but it saved his life. Both of us thought that cigarettes and cancer was a 1 in 10 thing, but it happened anyway. And believe me, terminal cancer is the worst ordeal for the smoker and his/her family to go through.

I am 20. I had a small case of asthma, a pounding heart, high blood pressure and breathing issues. Now all of thats gone. I just got a full torso x-ray and everything came back perfect...heart, lung, etc. Now im exercising, lifting weights religiously and have lost a ton of weight since I quit.

Some people cant figure it out or dont want to accept it. Either way, in the future one is going to have to quit.

E cigarettes dont need to be forced onto someone. Mostly everybody balances it out with a combination of both analogs and ecig. If he just switches (best idea IMO with 36mg juice and a really good PV) he'll just get smokers aggrivation and other unpleasant semi-withdrawal effects. This is a case where something like a LR atomizer, some high nic e liquid(26-36mg), and a good PV (nicostick or other L.I. powered devices) will be more likely to work. As opposed to fussing about with a low quality ecigarette that doesnt deliver..

I'm 55 and I've been vaping for over a year now. Didn't kill me in 3 months.

Really, not even your step-father believes his argument. He doesn't want to switch. He doesn't want to even try and he doesn't want to say that. He figures that if he comes up with a bogus excuse, you'll leave him alone. There's nothing for you to do but, understand that it really is his choice. Let him know that there is an alternative and if he ever wants it, you'll help him and give the guy some peace.

ahem, he smokes 4 pack a day, I think he likes them.
Anything else isn't for him...yet.
Of course he'll say ecigs are bad,he doesn't want to stop smoking.

This is what I think also. He is pathologically addicted to cigarettes and terrified of the idea of giving them up, but can't admit that. It is frightening to him.

I'd leave him one to try as others have said. Super easy with just a good battery (like ego 1100) and a filled LR clearomizer and a 24 mg liquid.

Also point out to him he can still smoke but use the PV to cut down. A LOT of people started this way with no intention of quitting, and ended up putting the cigs down for good!

Oh, and if they are not wealthy, your mom may point out how much is being spent on cigs and cutting them down by half would save a lot of money.

Also if he uses the computer, log on to the "Over 55 thread" and start from the first posting....pull it up for him and bookmark it....there are tons of awesome postings from people who quit using PV's after age 50, and are doing great!

I'm approaching a year 'bakky free. Being 65, I feel better than when I was 50!

Hopefully your S-D will soon decide he wants to quit. At least you'll be there for him. Best of luck to him and you!

Awh, I hate when people say vaping is bad and have no good reason or info to back it up! Probably because they can't!

I work part time as a bartender at a karaoke place, and I use my e-cig there whenever I can. Most of the other employees there and customers have asked me about my e-cig and wanted to try it, and after I let them try it, they usually ask me where they can get one. I am trying to raise more e-cig awareness because all of these people smoke a lot. However, one day, one of the servers tells me that e-cigs are worse than you than regular cigs. I asked her where she heard this, and she said a customer told her that he tried an e-cig for a month when he was trying to cut down, and got really sick, so he went back to analogs. I got annoyed and said that him getting sick probably had nothing to do with the e-cig and asked for some medical evidence (shrug). She was just like "noo noo e-cigs are bad... don't do them!" and pulls out a regular cig.

Anyways... hope your old man will give them a chance. Just because he heard somewhere someone got sick doesn't mean anything... lots of people vape and they're just fine, if not better!

My step is in the same boat. He doesn't believe the e-cig does not have tar. I keep trying to tell him, and has gotten me a bit upset. Im about to print out a "E-Cig For Dummies" book so he can sit and read it. Keep in mind, he smokes about 2-3 packs a day of these cigar/cigarette things and has recently been coughing pretty bad.. We shall what I can do to convert him and get him an ego PV.
