okay, after buying some new cartos and testing out various juices (I almost exclusively have been vaping 30mg Wyatt Earp with cartridges) I think I'm narrowing down -- very exciting

with the new BOGE cartos, the 30mg and 24mg juices are WAY too much throat hit -- about the same as brand new drops in a cartridge top-off -- 16mg is not quite enough, but that's with my 3.7V 510

so I'm thinking I should go with probably 4mg or 8mg juice, on a 5V or 6V rig

any thoughts to you experienced folks out there? I like lots of vapor and taste, but 24mg is too strong on a brand new carto -- would bumping the volts up make the throat hit go up enough that I'd have to drop that far below 16mg to get a 16-24mg type throat hit on a new carto?

sorry to bump -- hardly anyone was on earlier when I asked this

my question is basically -- with more voltage (or less resistance) comes more vapor, regardless of the nicotine content -- so vaping a really low nic juice like 4mg or 8mg with a really high voltage would produce lots of vapor with less throat hit than 30mg with a carto on a regular 3.7V 510 -- is that right?

High voltage makes many juices taste burnt and the vapor can be very hot. The throat hit is, in part, independent of nic content. I find ~5V to be about right for most juices, as do many vapers. When I went to higher voltage, I lowered nic from 24mg on 3.7V to 16mg on 5V. I'm probably going to try 12mg soon. The nicotine is delivered more rapidly on HV mods, so a lot of folks lower the nic level as well. i would try 12-16mg at 5-6V before going lower, IMHO. I personally find 6V at 3.5 Ohms (Boge cartos) too hot for my liking. YMMV. BTW, I was just about pack a day on analogs, you may need to consider that in your "calculations". A cheap $15 passthrough may help you see if 5V is right for you, too.
The only devices capable of 5 AND 6 Volts are the fairly pricey variable voltage mods.

thanks cappadoc -- that's kind of a bummer I guess -- I don't notice much difference (using my old cartridge/atties) in the amount of vapor with the 48mg Jeff's Mix (wordup ecig) I've got and the 16mg Melon from liquidnicotine.com -- definitely more throat hit haha

I just figured that since these BOGE 510 (regular) cartos hit so hard that somehow cartos don't smooth out the vape as much as cartridges do -- but since the flavor is more pronounced I figured I'd just use the cartos with more power and less nicotine -- but after vaping 16mg in the cartos, that's still too much -- but I want more vapor man haha MORE!!! I wouldn't mind if I got about twice the vapor I get with the 16mg in a carto, but about 3/4 the throat hit

so I guess I'll go with what you said and try the 5V passthrough and maybe buy a sample of 12mg and 8mg of a few juices I already know to compare them to a carto of the 16mg juices at 3.7V on the 510 and see where I'm at then

there's noticeably more vapor on 5V vs. 3V right?

Are you feeling the urge to vape more, ie nic withdrawal? If not, I would suggest 5V at your current level or slightly lower. You sound like a perfect candidate for higher VG content. VG - more vapor, less TH. 5v will get you more vapor, but also more TH. As I said, I don't find nic level to have all that much effect on TH. don't get me wrong, it certainly is part of the equation, but 5V had a MUCH greater impact than changing nic levels did.
So on a guesstimate, i might suggest trying 5V, higher VG percentage, 12-18mg juice. Do you know the VG content of your current juice?
The 5V will cause vapor production to increase, but to decrease TH, try a VG mix. Maybe 70/30 or 50/50?

it's not so much that I have the urge to vape -- just that I really like it -- I'm not too worried about nic (although I like that too...)

I notice that my 30mg Wyatt Earp from FSUSA has TONS of vapor running it through a cart/atty, but is too harsh in my BOGE cartos -- I'm guessing (partially because you're saying VG has more vapor) that it's a blend of PG/VG, but I don't know the ratio because their recipe is so secret

have you seen this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WwLh3DdDgR0

I can get 2X flavor from FSUSA, so if I went with that PV I could get probably TONS of vapor and a decent throat hit at probably 24mg since he says that one has 'no' throat hit -- but I can't for the life of me find his #1 pick anywhere - he calls it an 'E9' -- I checked greensmoke, couldn't find an 'E9' anywhere...

Yep, green smoke is an E9. I had one, returned it. Sucked hard. Cartos were VERY inconsistent and very expensive. I have an 808 now. Love it. I would avoid the E9. Stick with 510/801/808. Way easier too find. 808's are more "flavor-centric", 510's lean more towards TH/vapor production. An 808 may suit you better? Frankly, if you have much 510 hardware, I don't think it matters very much whether you use 510/808. You should be able to get a good vape either way.
Higher nic content does have some impact on TH, so I would still suggest trying 5V, 12-24mg, higher VG content liquids. Try a vendor that lets you choose PG/VG mix.

I take your point about the 510 being just as good as most others at vapor production

maybe I'm just too picky haha...

when I used to smoke (rollies...) if I really wanted to I could take a HUGE drag and blow out an enormous cloud of smoke -- which for some reason I find very satisfying (especially if I'm drinkin :D) but if I try to do that with an ecig, I can get a somewhat large cloud of smoke (largest so far with Wyatt Earp), but the throat hit is just too much

seems like for the amount of vapor I breathe out on a large hit on an ecig, it's like a small drag on a cigarette

maybe someday they'll find a new thing to make juice out of that produces more vapor, but until then I'll take your advice with the 5V passthrough -- thanks man :D

I use a Buzz from notcig and I get the "sweet spot" on everything I vape as it's the original variable voltage device. I would remember one rule of thumb pg produces more throat hit and vg produces more vapor. If you go to the pharmacy and pick up some vg and add it to your juice, just a little, it will cut your throat hit down and increase the vapor. It will be called Glycerin in the pharmacy. I hope this helps.

holy crap you're right -- I just noticed one of my juices is all VG and no PG -- I've got like 22 juices -- I just forgot haha

every juice I have, ALL of them are all PG except this one, and oddly, it was the juice I used when I filled my first BOGE soft cap carto to test them out -- I filled it, vaped it for a sec, and proceeded to fill the other four when I got sidetracked by a separate issue -- but I left it alone since then -- so glad I just noticed it was VG

it's Max/Boro from FSUSA, and it puts out TONS of vapor!!! and for a 30mg juice, the throat hit is very mild

this makes me think there HAS to be mostly VG in the Wyatt Earp because that puts out about as much vapor, but probably has some VG because the throat hit at 30mg is pretty stiff in a carto (awesome on a cart/atty though)

so yeah, I'm definitely sticking with VG from now on.... this vapor is crazy on the Max/Boro :D :D :D

heck, I could probably bump it up to 36mg for a tiny bit more TH :D awesome
