Ok, way outside the box, not even an album per se, but I'll give a nod to a composer I consider a heavy metal rocker born 75 years before metal was even born. This man was named Sergei Prokofiev, and the piece in question is called Scythian Suite, written in 1915.

I know its a Best of album but it was a huge progression in my listening development, I wore out 3 cassettes and 2 albums and on my second CD, too....

The first 4 sabbath albums are the first 4 chapters of the metal bible. (Hendrix and Cream wrote the introduction, but I wouldn't call them METAL) Some might even say Zeppelin, but for METAL, it started with the intro to Black Sabbath, Black Sabbath (at a time when the hippie thing was still in full swing there was nothing like it), then Paranoid, Master of Reality, and Vol. 4. As far as I am concerned, there are 2 types of rock bands that have existed since 1970. Those that listened, and those that didn't.
