So at work one of the guys I work with kept trying to get me to take a hit off of his cigarette(like he always does) and finally tonight I decided to take a tiny hit off of it to see what it tastes like after about a month and a half of not smoking........I took a tiny hit and about GAGGED!!! It tasted like #$@%!!!!! It seriously tasted like I ate a whole mouth full of ashes! Now I understand when non smokers always say "you smell like an ashtray" because that is exactly what it tasted like! Thank you Steve for getting me off the analogs...I mean that more than ever now!!!!:D

My wife and I were out last weekend, and she asked me to hand her the pack of smokes (I still can't get her to take the plunge with vapeing). I thought, "It's been about 2 1/2 months since I quit, let's see how they taste." So I lit one for her and took a pretty good drag, and to my dismay, it was GOOOOD!!!! I knew I still liked the smell of a freshly lit cigarette, but thought I'd be like everyone else and hate the taste. Guess who won't be lighting any more smokes for his wife?

I don't mind the taste so much, but the smell is far from good.

++ Agreed! I am guilty of lighting up my share of analogs since I started vaping, I think I've bought three packs in the past thee months. I still *kinda* like the first smoke or two from the pack... kinda... but the "pleasure" level quickly decreases after that.

Whenever I do go out to a smokey bar now since cutting back, the lingering odor of stale smoke is much more noticeable and unpleasant to me vs when I was smoking a pack/day.

Some good news is that I'm no longer dreading the smoking ban that will go into effect here in Wisconsin next July.

Nothing wrong with liking that analog. You want to quit them for whatever reasons, I doubt your top/only reason (if it was a reason at all) was because you hated the taste of them and feeling they gave you. I'm betting it was health reasons, over-dependence and smell once it went stale.
Now, it's not so bad a thing if you have an analog once in a while, the problem is if you get hooked back onto them, or back into programmed reactive behavior.

A 'good' solution would be twofold, to prevent both mental and physical addiction:
  1. never have an analog because you 'need' one. i.e. if something stressful happens, don't have an analog because you 'need' one - that is a bad programmed reactive behavior.
  2. Never have more than 1 analog in a 3 day period. The 3 day period is a habit mark, and the time it takes for the nasty chemicals to be expelled from your body (feel free to correct me if I'm wrong) - so if you never have more than 1 analog in a 3 day period, then your body cannot become addicted either.
Note: it would also help if when you do have that one analog, you put yourself out for it, if possible, i.e. even if you smoked inside, or have others who smoke inside, make sure you go outside for it - this helps distance it from any old habit-smoking

I'm thinking if you follow those two rules, there's no reason not to enjoy an analog every now and then, and the beauty of it is that you can actually enjoy the analog - the taste, the buzz, etc.

Now, bear in mind, I am not telling anyone to do this. Please don't jump down my throat on it, and I know there actually are many that are now disgusted by the taste/smell of analogs, and that's no worries.

Also, if you don't think you can hold yourself in rigid discipline not to break the above 2 rules, then they could be the path to getting back on analogs, so tread carefully.
Of course, if you've got your VaporKing to fall back on, then I don't see it being real difficult.

And, most of all, there are many who are vaping and still smoking and cant/haven't switched off analogs completely, and I think for some of these people, the simple fact is that it's too overwhelming to imagine that 'never having a cigarette again' situation. The simple fact of it is if those folks can cut down to a maximum of 1 analog every 3 days, and no 'reactive' smoking in stressful situations, etc, they I think those people can consider themselves quit of smoking, and true vapers, who indulge once in a while, just like people who get out and get drunk on friday nights aren't necessarily alcoholics.
And, for the analog smokers, I'd think the above 2 rules would make a much nicer 'end goal' to aim for than '0 cigarettes, ever'

Anyhows, just my 2 cents. well, more like $2.15, but oh well.

That's well thought out dashiva and I think you make a strong case for some people that need that cig every once in awhile. Reading this forum and others on ecigs i am struck how very different we all are when it comes to vaping. Some can quit immediately like myself[ thank god!] for others it take a bit longer.
At the end of each day though it doesn't matter how many analogs you had, it's how many you didn't!

I was a big opponent to the smoking ban in IL... but now it's really nice not coming home from the bar or a gig and reeking like somebody elses smoke.

Still tough for me when I go to WI bars (I live on the IL/WI boarder) because the temptation is right there...plus I stink. ;)
