Pardon my question, but I don't know you guys well enough to know yet - is this a good artibacco flavor, or are you guys being facetious? Haven't heard many reviews on this one, but I do enjoy their Cavendish and Burley ones.

rabernet,

I'm not personally a member of the TPR Smooth & Mild fan club. To me, it tasted like a typical synthetic, lab-based tobacco flavoring. Nothing to write home about. Jerms and at least a couple other thread denizens really like it, however. They're not kidding, or---if they are---they've sure pulled the wool over my eyes. Smooth & Mild periodically comes up in discussions here as a benchmark for how a good artibacco should taste.

I've been getting into rewicking with cotton because nets were beating up my heads. I've noticed two things that are kind of interesting.

The first is, not all cotton is the same. I've rewicked a couple with cotton from cotton balls and a couple with cotton from "facial rounds" used for removing makeup. The facial rounds actually seem to give more flavor. I don't know why. I boiled them right along with the cotton balls. So, there is no difference in their prep. Cotton balls give a good clean flavor but they seem to kind of flat line the flavor. The facial rounds give a clean flavor, but the flavor seems to pop out more. I would compare the cotton balls to using a compressor on a musical track. Everything comes across cleaner and louder, but everything is the same volume. I've noticed it the most on MVJ's CAO Italia.

That brings me to number two. MVJ's CAO Italia is the only juice I prefer on the factory Kanger wicks. Honestly, on cotton it become bland for me. Every nuance seems to disappear. I just get this weird generic VG and Habano taste. The Italia is a weird beast. It is the most finicky juice I've had so far. You have to shake it just right and run it in/on the right juice system at the right setting. There is a great juice in there, but you're always chasing it instead of it just revealing itself. So far it has only popped when given a thirty second shake and run on silica wicks at 8+ watts. It has been good on other setups, but nothing special until you dial it in just right.

Thank you Bill for your feedback, and the background on it. :)

OK, I'm just not "getting" Puff King Vintage Tobacco. I picked up a bottle on a whim last GeJ order. I've let it steep, clearo-steep, and steep some more, but all I'm getting is a 'tussiny medicinal flavor that I don't think is going to go away. I'm struggling to find the T in this supposed NET and don't think this one is for me.

That would be cool. I'm extracting some AS Perique, it's got another month to go. This is gonna finally put me over the edge. Decant, mix the juice and wait another 7-10 days for the juice to steep. Aaaahhhhh.......!!!!!

I've heard that it was American spirit. They have a contract with one guy to get all of their Perique. There is another guy that bought a failing perique company and is supply a large part (maybe all) of the other perique. He came in to basically rescue Perique from extinction is how they tell the story. I think they've been using a blend of St. James and other Virginias for a while though. I remember reading that years ago a single bad crop season nearly wiped out the Perique supply. So, one of the original families came up with the idea of adding in Virginias to help stretch the supply. That way one bad season wouldn't destroy the entire market.

Here is the first story I could dig up on it. It seems AS gets there perique from the last legacy family in perique production. Most other perique is a blend of burley and virginia with some St. James tobacco in the mix. At least that is how I understand it.

I'm not sure if it's a good artibacco flavor, but it's one of my personal favorites. There's a touch of TA in it that makes it a little fuzzy. It just clicks very well with me, not sure why. Something I can grab for anytime and enjoy it.

That's why I do heat-assisted macerations. I marvel at all the home extractors who have the patience to wait seemingly forever for cold-process, room-temperature macerations. Is it outright masochism or just astonishing forbearance? Either way, I don't have it. I tried room-temp long-steep macerations twice---both times, I gave up after a week and cooked 'em. Heck, it's all I can do to cool my jets for a 3-5 day warm water bath. Also, I start vaping my NETs the minute I mix the juices after filtering and bottling the extracts.

Oh, I have patience for many things, but extractions aren't among them.

I just got down with some of Johni's extrraction of Gawith Hoggarth and Co. Black Irish X. Man, this stuff is friggin wonderful. Mine is 70/30, 18 mg and I am dripping on an ebaron. DELICIOUS, full bodied smoke. Yep...SMOKE. "Authetic Smoking Experience. Not too light, not too in your face, but full flavored. Johnni's juices consistently hit a near perfect balance between full bodied flavor and smoothness. really remarkable. I have never had a twisted, rope Virginia before. They state that this tobacco is: "All our twist tobacco varieties are manufactured by the same spinning process using dark fired wrapper leaves. The filler is again, predominantly dark fired leaf with the addition of a small percentage of dark air cured Indian leaf. They are therefore strong tobaccos." It is an aromatic that is cooked under pressure, topped with sweet rum, then "the addition of maple sugars blended with rum to the 'filter' leaf. This is then spun into a rope form before being made into a roll which is cold-pressed overnight. So what does that all mean? Think Black cavendish, but with a virginia, not dank and musty but a bit brighter, full flavored, with a slightly sweet finish. It bridges a gap between a pressure cooked dark tobacco and a cigar. In fact the finish is very cigar like. I think it is delectable.

Johni is a man to be reckoned with. I have tried a few of his juices - H&H Louisiana Red, Sutliff Burley Delight, and one of my top 2 juices I have ever had Sutliff Voodoo Queen. Every one is almost exactly like smoking a pipe. Incredible, incredible stuff I would take over any NET retailer I have tried yet.

I agree with you 100%. I had most of the ones you tried and all I can say is WOW!

I can't remember the guy's name but I remember reading that he took it over and had a couple of good growing seasons so that he's doing pretty good now.

Maybe I could buy a carton of AS Perique, break out the magnifier stand and separate out all the Perique, then extract it.

What's that you say? A little obsessive? Perhaps but I go out of my way tracking down off the wall mechs and RBA's so it's like second nature to me.

After three weeks I went back to SPC Miss River and it has come around nicely. I notched things down a bit and went with 9 watts on the kick with an 1.8 ohm micro coil and cotton. A little cooler but good.

I think a little Newminster Blackberry Brandy for a nice nightcap.

Boomerdude, don't worry, you don't have a problem at all. Perique is THAT good, it's understandable. I'd consider doing the same to get that pure goodness. To save yourself some effort though, try a tin of the McClelland pure Perique. I'm sure there are others who have it straight-up and unblended too.

Hey guys, I haven't seen been able to find it mentioned any where here, and I may have just missed it, but do any of you have any experience ordering from Trabuco? A friend sent me a small sample of Trabuco Silverado and I am having trouble putting it down. I just wanted to ask you all about it before I placed an order with them.

Any knowledge shared would be much appreciated.

My all day vape is cautiously becoming my all day vape. 48 hrs at 110F with a hot plate and pane of water. Filtered thru ryon the 5 micron felt. Looks as clean as myvaporjuice.com extract. Its Newminster Superior Cavendish surrounded by Virginia. I used a big SS turkey injector to filter.

My current adv is Ether Elclipse Cavendish. I can't figure out what tobacco they use after trying many samples, anyone have a clue? They diffently add sweetner something I need to figure out (ordered the crystal.)

Thanks for all the valuable info on this forum.

I've tried the different Periques except net.com and my taste buds just prefer Cavendish for vaping. But Ethers Confederate is good. I need to try vaporites Perique?

Juicy and checkum, thank you for your kind words about my extractions. I'm glad you're enjoying them as that is the ONLY reason I extract and share: enjoyment!

Bill, I have no problem setting aside my room temp macerations and letting the process happen over time. I'm amazed at the impatience of most vapers who seem to need instant gratification continuously! For me, kicking back and relaxing adds to the enjoyment so I'm in no hurry.
