I get the same thing on my rewicked Kanger heads sometimes. Sometimes it happens if you don't give the cotton enough time to wick before you start vaping. I always give them at least five minutes and a few cold pulls. You have to be careful not to flood on cold pulls though.

Orlik definitely came around to be a huge surprise. I've got a couple of bags of pipe tobacco laying around. I'll PM you about making a swap for more Orlik.

You guys that need more wicking, one thing rayon does unquestionably well is wick. Cotton holds well, rayon wicks well. I would bet you would get hugely improved results in a Kanger head with instant wicking after a pull with rayon.

Since I'm using the dual coil heads, I use a silica and cotton hybrid system. It works pretty well. It eliminates some of the wicking issues. The downside is that it is a pita to get silica to hold together when threading it through the coil. I tried using it over the top coil as a "flavor wick." That mutes the vapor and flavor a bit. Using it as a middle "flavor wick" is better but still a huge pita when threading it between coils. I usually have to do one or two strands at a time. The big advantage is that it controls flooding. Going straight cotton I always end up with flooding issues. Once it wicks cotton can wick too much. It seems to draw in more than silica.

Very true, I use this method on a few atomizers. Learned it from having to control the Taifun GT juice drip. A top atomizer for flavor imo I have too add cotton tops to the cotton micro builds in them to prevent the perpetual drip down the side.

Next up sideXside, Bill's Louisiana Red Pipe, a VA/Per blend, with KGD and CelluCotton. Wow, not getting any detectable difference in flavor notes. The rayon seems a touch sweeter, but not convinced I'd tell which is which blind. Weird how a wicking medium can make one juice taste totally different and another taste the same.

Major nic buzz, not a fan of side by sides. Ah lawdy this Louisiana Red is giving me a might case of the vapors. Someone fetch me my sitting chair and a cold glass of sweet tea.

Dripping some HHV Huntsman that I picked up during the big sale a little while ago. I'm not well versed in their tobaccos, as I felt I lucked into something good by trying Gaia first. I believe this one shares the same tobacco base, but the burnt kettle corn top note is not sitting well with me. For those who've gone down this road, does this improve with age? Or should I just move on?

Just found out I get a week off, fired up my Hearth & Home Berry Nice net that I made last week. Absolutely incredible. Its a Cavendish dominate with a slight berry on the exhale. I was afraid as it aged the berry would start to dominate but the opposite happened, I can really taste the Cavendish now. Its so nice being able to make nets at home. Surfing to Pipesandcigars.com I'm like a kid in a candy store. But I want to try a cigar, can anyone recommend a Cavendish cigar to try if there is such a thing?

I haven't heard of one. I know Middleton cigars claim to use pipe tobacco. Also there is a Kentucky Fired cigar that uses the usual cigar tobacco but uses a different aging and curing technique. It is cured in a style similar to fire curing pipe tobaccos.

I never got a kettle corn flavor from Huntsman. More earthy, woodsy, mossy notes. I like my Huntsman well steeped with a minimum of 3 months when the maple and honey notes appear [for me]. If it's fresh, it's closer to Dark Horse [kinda plain, boring]. Steeped, it's a forest of wonder.

What's #1, if I may be so bold?

Sorry for the delay, out since Thursday so I guess I will trickle in with a few responses here today.

My current #1 juice is Bill Herbst's extraction of Hearth & Home - Magnum Opus. Johni's extraction of Sutliff - Voodoo Queen is a close #2.

I want to make a special mention of extraction by Dustmight and Boomerdude. I haven;t had a bad juice from either one of them and they have a few in the mix to round out my top 5. My top 2 selections so far are based more on the flavor profile of the actual tobacco more than anything else, as all 4 DIY'er have excellent extractions. Boomer's Orlick - Sun Sliced, McClelland - Dark Navy Flake, and Sutliff - Red Wine are all currently high on my list and in my rotation, as are Dustmight's McClelland - Royal Cajun Special. All are particular favorites of mine and in heavy rotation on the Uncle BJ Magical Mystery Pipe Tour, as are Bill's Milan Tobacconists - Black Forest and johnni's Gawith Hoggarth and Co. - Black Irish X

I've been following this thread for a while now and am finding I'm enjoying NETs (especially the suggestions here) far more than my other vapes. I'm a little sad because I don't have the variety of NETs in comparison to desert vapes. I had a couple questions regarding them.

I'm loving RBSF's St. James Perish Perique. I love the funk and tobacco but it's a bit mild for me. They say on their website that they've pre-steeped their NETs for 3 weeks. Should I let it steep some more for a more robust taste? Are there any other perique based NETs I can try?

The other question I had was about the home-made NETs that people are raving about. Do any of you sell them officially or is it all through trades?

Hey sandman, welcome to the thread. I've had St. James since February, and it does seem stronger and funkier as it ages. If you store it in a plastic bottle instead of the glass it comes in it will age quicker. Also, be sure to shake your juice well before loading it up.

Another all Perique NET on the market is from GoodeJuice called Natural Perique. It's been a long time since I've had it, so can't say how the strength compares to St. James. I remember it to be pretty mild until it got several months old, but I was vaping on a totally different system then. Speaking of that, what do you use for an atomizing system? Different set-ups are more tuned to stronger flavor, so what you use makes a difference to how strong the flavor is.

Good point, I forgot to mention that I usually use 3 Kayfun Lite Plus tanks in rotation. Those coupled with a VaporShark DNA30. I usually vape around 1.5 ohms and @ 13 watts. I'll usually use my Trident V2 to do a taste test on new liquids before I put them into my Kayfuns.

NETs are a little frustrating right now for me, I know they'll get better with age but I don't have enough to keep me going at the moment.

I do trades rather than selling. If you PM me I'll see what we can do to get you some Perique blends.

Weekly NETCOM report...

nothing

Today marks 10 weeks since order #2255 on 4/22/14

Anyone that remembers the TV show "The Life of Riley" may remember his comment that is His stock answer to every turn of fate became a catch phrase: 'What a revoltin' development this is!" which is so apropos here. :grr:

Further testing of NET with CelluCotton.

Worked very well with RiverBottom's Pirate's and Fab & Burley. With Pirate's the sweetness was bumped up but so was the the flavor. May be bordering on too sweet, but for me delicious(er). F&B was mostly the same, but a little creamier and tastier. Not a big difference but I liked what it did.

The bigger and obvious change is in the performance of Dust's home-brew, Royal Cajun. It was a dirty birdy with the KGD cotton, and the flavor was effected for me in under a ml. With the rayon, a ml in and not getting any tell-tale gunk build-up flavor. No idea why this would be, but it's doing quite a bit better with a dirty NET than cotton so that's a pretty great win for rayon for my use.

I get that sometimes and I vape NET's exclusively. What I figured was, when the cotton burns just inside the coil it's because I was chain vaping away in my usual style. When I slowed down, it didn't happen. Guess I wasn't giving the cotton enough time to wick up more juice.

I am learning to keep all my so-called non-starter NET's. I've gone back to several now that have been hanging around for a couple of months. Orlik Sunsliced, Dustmight's Luxury Flake Bourbon and Mellow Mack all improved with age. I gotta stop being so quick on the circular file and use a little patience.

I see at FT there are more and more RDA's set-up to take ribbon wire. More surface space with ribbon means bigger clouds.

My experiments on mixing extracts has met with partial success so far. I managed a pretty good Blackberry Cavendish. I am flustered at trying to make a decent mix of Virginia's, Orientals and Burleys that I can add one synthetic flavor to make a pleasing juice. I know it can work, I think it's just a matter of proportions.

Did someone say BLACK berry?
